Young And The Restless News: Doug Davidson Speaks Out About Kristoff St. John’s Death And Returning To Y&R

Young And The Restless News: Doug Davidson Speaks Out About Kristoff St. John's Death And Returning To Y&RViewers of “The Young and the Restless” were surprised and upset when the news broke out that Doug Davidson is leaving the show after 40 long years of playing the role Detective Paul Williams.

Fortunately, he was brought back to the soap after four months, which delighted not only the fans but also the cast and crew of the soap.

In September 2018, Davidson broke his silence about the news that he was fired from “The Young and the Restless.” He said, “My contract was not renewed in January, I went on recurring, but just until they had new people in place. I have only 2 shows that haven’t aired and no dates. So, as far as I know, I am gone.”

Young And The Restless Spoilers – Doug Davidson’s Shocking Exit

His exit shocked many but it was “The Young and the Restless” veteran Eric Braeden who was vocal about his opinion. He referred to the soap’s decision to cut off Davidson as an ‘egregious mistake.’

Davidson was extremely appreciative of Braeden’s words and said, “I can’t explain how much it meant to me that he would step up for no reason. It was because he cares for me and he cares for the show.

That’s incredible. I mean, how many other actors on the show would take that stance? I will be forever grateful to Mr. Braeden and his devotion. He is one of a kind.”

On the note of his return to “The Young and The Restless,” Davidson told Soaps.com that nothing much has changed since he left. “From my perspective in that period, I let everything go and decided to move on with my life and do other things, so it was a growth period for me. And then when I got [back] into the building it was like, ‘Oh, wow, nothing’s changed here.’ It was strange in that way.”

Doug Davidson Opens Up About Kristoff St. John’s Death

He added that the show meant a lot to him. He stressed that he spent the most part of his life in the show and he described his departure as “shocking to my spirit.” When he came back to the show, he felt as if he was returning home. He is both happy and excited for a new story.

However, he is also deeply affected by the passing of Kristoff St. John as he has known him since he joined the soap.

“To continue the mourning and his departure is incredibly painful and it carries a bigger weight than you might guess. It’s a subtle and latent pain that you drag on. And when we did the tribute show, everything bubbled up again. You relive the pain over and over. I think for us it’s time to move on and remember him for the great guy he was. He was a loving human being, and that’s what I will miss more than anything. He was always concerned more about you than himself and he was always giving.”
