Young and the Restless News: Jess Walton Teases Jill’s Biggest Rival

Jill Abbott (Jess Walton)

Viewers of “The Young and the Restless” loved it when Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) went head to head with Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). Contrary to what many fans may think, Katherine isn’t Jill’s greatest enemy.

Despite Jill and Kay’s previous squabbles, the latter didn’t make to the top of the former’s hit list. Even her recent clash with Mishael Morgan’s character, Amanda Sinclair, can’t compare to the fury she has for the person who’s holding the top spot.

The honor of being Jill’s number one enemy goes to Mamie Johnson, who was portrayed by Margueritte Ray from 1980 to 1989, and Veronica Redd starting from 1990.

Walton revealed, “Jill despised Mamie. I once said to Jeanne that I [play] more hate in my scenes with Mamie than with Katherine.” The actress was referring to the age-old rift between the two over John Abbott (Jerry Douglas).

“I think the reason was that the story with Mamie happened when I was playing Jill. The [original] backstory with Jeanne happened before I got there,” she added.

Jill has always despised Katherine but the pair had a unique love and hate relationship, which Walton was made much more complicated since Jeanne Cooper is already gone.

“The scripts will call for me to call [Kay] ‘the old bat,’ which I did in our scenes when Jeanne was alive. But it’s very uncomfortable for me to call her that unless she’s face to face with me. I used to call her that to insult her and have fun with her,” the actress explained.

Walton admitted that it’s been hard for her to do that. It was difficult for everyone to film the tribute for Katherine as well as the other late “The Young and the Restless” stars like Kristoff St. John. However, Walton was one of the many who appreciated the show and the network’s efforts to honor them.

The actress said, “At my age, so many of my friends, old boyfriends… they’ve all died. I’ve been saying to people after the last one [passed away]… I don’t feel bad because I feel that they’re all waiting.”

“As I get older — and I’m not thinking [imminently] — but I feel like someday we’ll all be together. That scene meant a lot to me because of that,” Walton continued.
