After arriving as an unexpected guest at Adam’s Las Vegas, Nevada, hotel room, where a gambling session was taking place, Phyllis appeared to make her intentions known. Following yet another poker chip haul and the departure of his gambling guests, Phyllis told Adam that he needed to return to Genoa City, Wisconsin, so they could continue to seek revenge against common enemies.

Adam’s resistance of Red’s call had nothing to do with her. But Phyllis told him that he hadn’t left his life and was merely taking a break. When challenged about her true intent, Stafford’s iconic character played classically coy.

However, tenured daytime devotees know that Stafford’s original edition of Phyllis and the version of Adam that was played by three different adult actors (Chris Engen, Michael Muhney, and Justin Hartley) prior to Grossman doesn’t necessarily impact what’s possible now.

In the past, Phyllis and Adam weren’t logical. They were involved with different people and were pursuing other goals. However, common interests and common enemies have both villains working together, on and off, in recent months. Evolving from faux friends into a dysfunctional, though purposeful, couple makes sense.

Gina Tognoni’s (the last edition of Phyllis) cast exit took place when Phyllis was kidnapped by Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart). Based on what he’d observed, Kevin believed that Tognoni’s alter ego was Adam’s new girlfriend.

While a misconception at the time, Kevin worked off his belief when luring Phyllis to a remote location. He kept her prisoner until she managed to escape and head to Vegas, which was the setting where Stafford reprised the role.

Y&R fans easily saw what might be possible at that time in the storyline. The dynamics were being put in place for Phyllis and Adam to bond, with a future romance also possible.

On the above point, Phyllis was sincere. However, her past public proclamations about not being on Adam’s team were also real. So, have her feelings about Adam moved toward romance over time?

No matter what Phyllis is really thinking, Adam’s sole focus was, is, and remains himself. He wants to be with both of his sons and attain respect in GC.
