Reed is now eighteen years old, and the last time Victoria saw him was when Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and she were beginning to have their problems. Victoria had set up a special ski trip for Billy, herself, and their younger children and Billy had been consulting – or so he said – for a company out of Chicago, Illinois after quitting Jabot and said he had to work.

Reed met Victoria and his younger siblings at the ski trip location. JT Hellstrom, (Thad Luckinbill) Victoria’s abusive husband had gotten sole custody of Reed, although he did run away to Genoa City as a fifteen-year-old from were JT and Reed’s stepmother had lived, in Washington, DC because he had taken a job in Warsaw, Poland and Reed was afraid he’d never see his mother again and wanted to live with her.

JT and his wife agreed to let Reed remain in Genoa City with Victoria, and he finished high school there and then moved away to attend college.

Reed returns to support his mother during her time of recovery, and to spend time with her. Growing up with his father, he didn’t really get to know her and the rest of his Newman relatives as well as he would have liked only being there three years, although he did put down some roots and maintain some close family relationships.

He is an aspiring musician and has been living in New Hampshire and can be expected to bring his guitar with him. His mother is going through a lot now, with having been stabbed in a case of mistaken identity and going through a breakup with Billy at the same time. Victoria is so hurt by and angry with Billy she doesn’t even want him in her sight and viewers of The Young and The Restless will recall that when Victoria first woke up in the hospital to see Billy by her side, she didn’t want him there – she told him to get away from her!

She may even have thought that he had been the one who had stabbed her, mostly thanks to her possibly have heard her father Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) ranting and accusations when Victoria was barely conscious. Billy has never been abusive like JT was but she is emotionally traumatized by him nonetheless, and by her having been attacked. She will appreciate her oldest son Reed coming for a visit and being close by as she recovers, and he will be happy to see his younger siblings, aunt, uncles, and grandparents for the first time in a few years.
