Despite the fact that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) are allowing Johnny Abbott (Ryan and Holden Hare) and Katie Abbott (Sienna Mercuri) to live with them at the Ranch, ‘Villy’s’ children also need their father.

Yes, the section header is absolutely true. He’s erratic, sometimes due to the effects of his gambling addiction, at others simply because he’s behaved like a self-centered jerk.

Billy’s most recent decision to move out of ‘Villy’s’ home came as a result of no actual conflict he had with Victoria. She had done nothing wrong. Instead, the mental health breakdown he suffered last summer hasn’t been adequately addressed, leaving him unhealed.

Vickie was the person who pulled Billy out of the terrible ordeal he endured, that culminated in a sad departure from reality at the Chancellor boathouse. To his credit, he did seek counseling and was exhibiting use of his free will power toward some positive ends. But the need for ongoing therapy and helpful medication was eventually discounted, as Billy recklessly pronounced himself fit.

As was noted above, Vickie’s parents are there for her children. Billy’s father, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas), passed many years ago. Jill Fenmore Atkinson (Jess Walton) sporadically pops into town. But, like her son, can’t be counted on to step up for her grandchildren on any regular basis.

While ‘Niktor’ has had its own problems through the years, Nikki and Victor have always found their way back to each other and have been reunited for a while in soapy time. They value the importance of supporting their grandchildren and are doing right by them at this time of crisis in Vickie’s life.

The presence of Amanda Sinclair (Michael Morgan) in Genoa City, Wisconsin, has created a new reality. Billy is interested in Morgan’s new character, seeing Amanda as his likely next soul mate. So, ‘Villy’ the couple appears to be over.

However, it’s possible that Amanda’s clarity will allow her to encourage Billy to do right by his children. He hasn’t abandoned them but does need to be reminded that they should be his full focus, rather than the image of himself that he sees in his mind.
