Phyllis Newman (Michelle Stafford) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) appear to want a ‘Phick’ reboot on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Considering their past history as a couple, will Phyllis and Nick stay together?
It would be simple to swat down this reunion as one that won’t last for more than a few weeks, or months. Some who argue that this pairing is dysfunctional could be proven right at almost any plot point.
But it’s also fair to wonder if Y&R is choosing to reignite ‘Phick’ for an extended period of time because Stafford and Morrow haven’t worked together since early in the last decade.
Gina Tognoni’s (Phyllis) version of ‘Red’ was involved in a romantic relationship with Morrow’s character as of last spring. But then Y&R made the decision to write them apart as part of a decision to replace Tognoni, who was part of the cast from 2014-2019, with Stafford, who initiated the role in 1994.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Michelle Stafford and Joshua Morrow’s Debuts
Stafford and Morrow debuted on Y&R in 1994. Phyllis was introduced as the fan who was fixated on Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian). Morrow was the SORAS’d recast of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) son.
Stafford’s efforts turned what could have been a side character into a full-blown regular cast member. The surprise announcement of her return to the show resulted in the original Phyllis being shown in Las Vegas, Nevada, last June.
Morrow has fully developed the teen-Nick he first played into a middle-aged man. While his deepest love story involves Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), Phyllis clearly was the anti-‘Shick’ turn Nick wanted to make.
Y&R Spoilers – Anti-Shick Turn Happens Again
Nick and Phyllis flirted with each other during the sudden winter storm that enveloped Genoa City, Wisconsin. They rehashed their personal history and discussed how getting together again didn’t make sense and wouldn’t work, ironically in the house that Nick initially built for him and Sharon to live in. Shortly thereafter the one-time ‘Phick’ began kissing.
Phyllis represented an anti-‘Shick’ turn all those soapy years ago, shortly after Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes) died as the result of injuries she suffered while driving Daniel Romalotti’s (Michael Graziadei) car. Nick represented a strive for stability, as he was the good man Phyllis wanted.
While ‘Shick’ and ‘Phack’ fans protested loudly, there’s no denying that Phyllis and Nick have chemistry. Call it love, or something else if one wishes, but these two people are drawn to each other. Their feelings can’t be denied by any observer.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Chemistry And Love Haven’t Prevented Breakups
True, Phyllis and Nick haven’t been able to make any of their relationships last. But they do have a child, Summer Newman (Hunter King). She represents the enduring bond that will never break and proof that ‘Phick’ was more than attraction, it was a commitment.

An early feel is that this latest edition has plenty of plot to play, meaning that it could last for years. Both people are single and have worked their way back to each other slowly, which indicates a thoughtful reunion that could have a slow burn, rather than a quick flameout.
