Amazon Splits “Invincible” Into Two Parts As SAG-AFTRA Strike Promises No End In Sight

If there was ever a time for streamers to squeeze the most they can out of every one of their shows, it’s now that SAG-AFTRA has joined WGA on strike.

Amazon has just divided its hit animated series into two parts in order to have some new content it can keep rolling out, especially with no end in sight for the labor union strike. No more all you can watch, I guess.

All We Know About Amazon’s “Invincible” Release Schedule

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Amazon announced that the show’s second season, which is based on creator Robert Kirkman’s comic book of the same name, will be returning on Nov. 3. However, it won’t be coming all at once. Four of the eight episodes is set to drop first. This is likely because productions of several movies and TV shows have halted following the strike and studios are trying to find ways to keep their viewers interested through this dry period.

New episodes will be arriving on the streamer every week, with the second half of the superhero title arriving at a date to be determined in early 2024. The adult-themed animated series, featuring the voices of Sandra Oh, Steven Yeun, Seth Rogen and more, first premiered in 2021.

On Tuesday, July 18, the president of SAG-AFTRA, Fran Drescher, announced that actors will be joining writers on strike following the crumpling of talks with studios for actors to receive better residuals from movies and TV shows when they are added to streaming platforms.

“They stand on the wrong side of history at this very moment,” Drescher announced at the time. “We stand in solidarity [and] in unprecedented unity. Our union and sister unions and unions around the world are standing by us, as well as other labor unions. Because, at some point, the jig is up. You cannot keep being dwindled and marginalized and disrespected and dishonored. The entire business model has been changed by streaming, digital and AI. This is a moment of history that is a moment of truth. If we don’t stand tall right now, we are all going to be in trouble. We are all going to be in jeopardy of being replaced by machines and big business, [which] cares more about Wall Street than you and your family.”

At the moment, no one knows the direction talks between the actors guild and studio heads are progressing, so this strike may continue for the foreseeable future.
