Blue Bloods Star Donnie Wahlberg Reveals Which Popular Guest Actors Return!

Blue Bloods actor Donnie Wahlberg can’t resist revealing his enthusiasm for the return of not just one but TWO popular guest stars! And spoilers for Blue Bloods season 12 also hint that these fan favorites could take a leading role in upcoming episodes. 

Wahlberg, who portrays Danny Reagan, recently turned to Instagram to honor the guest actors. Want to guess before we reveal the names? First, think about a country music legend who previously starred on Blue Bloods.  And second, start humming about a trip to “Margaritaville!” Then keep reading to see if you guessed right!

Donnie Wahlberg and the rest of the Blue Bloods cast just celebrated the surprise return of musician/actor (drumroll, please) Lyle Lovett! And Donnie created the perfect Instagram post to welcome back the fan favorite. Superimposed on a photo showing the two actors grinning happily, Wahlberg crafted the words, “Did I mention I love this guy?”

In addition to the photo, the Blue Bloods actor gushed in his caption, “Glad to be reunited with this guy @lyle_lovett on @bluebloods_cbs, and when I actually do “have a boat” again, it’s gonna “go out on the ocean” with all of us and he’s invited. 🤖❤️♾ (See the fine print 🤠😉).” As for that “fine print” Donnie mentioned? He hinted that he’s plotting how to achieve his “dream” of singing a duet with Lyle someday soon. 

Blue Bloods  Spoilers – What Roles Will Fan Favorites Play On Blue Bloods?

Although Donnie Wahlberg gushed about Lyle Lovett in his Instagram post, he didn’t reveal what character the country music king will play. But Lovett previously portrayed Waylon Gates, according to Pop Culture. That portrayal began in 2020, in an episode in which Lyle showed up as a Texas ranger determined to track down the “Lone Star Killer.”

Unsure initially of how to achieve that goal in New York, Waylon faced challenges initially in working with rather than against the famously close-knit Reagan clan. But Danny Reagan and Gates eventually achieved a way to team up to halt the killer. One particularly popular scene, for instance, showed Waylon giving Danny his cowboy hat.

But Lovett isn’t the only musician to spend some time with the Blue Bloods cast this season. Donnie also confirmed that another popular musician will star on the police drama. His Instagram post showed Wahlberg grinning into the sun with the Margaritaville legend himself, Jimmy Buffett! “Looks Rockaway Beach, but it feels like Margaritaville! Having a great time shooting a fun new episode of @bluebloods_cbs with the legend @jimmybuffett! What a great guy! So fun! #YachtRockaway,” wrote the Blue Bloods star. 

As for what role Jimmy will play on Blue Bloods, Donnie didn’t reveal. But based on Buffett’s success portraying helicopter pilot Frank Bama on Hawaii Five-O, we’re hoping for a long story arc.
