Happy birthday, Tom Selleck! The Blue Bloods star just turned 77.  And to honor him, his co-star Donnie Wahlberg decided to tell the world just how much Selleck means to him by sharing on Instagram. “Happy Birthday to my TV dad, and real life friend & father figure, Tom Selleck!” wrote Donnie.

But Wahlberg added a dash of humor in his postscript. “Thankful to have you in my life ‘dad,'” wrote the Blue Bloods star. “And blessed to have a small supporting role in the amazing legacy that is your life! Love you, Dad; always, son!” But he also admitted that Tom probably will never see the praise in a sweetly humorous postscript. 

“P.S., I know you won’t see this because you probably have no idea what @instagram is,” added Donnie. “But it’s ok because I don’t mind sharing with the world that you mean a lot to me.” And that relationship has developed over the years since Blue Bloods debuted.

Leading his fictional family of police, Len Cariou stepped into the shoes of retired New York police commissioner, Henry Reagan. And Len found his perfect counterpart in Tom Selleck, who has perfectly portrayed Henry’s son Frank as the current police commissioner. But Frank’s often stern manners occasionally get softened with help from his own son Detective Danny (Donnie Wahlberg). 

And the Reagan family dinner table would not feel complete without Frank’s younger son Sergeant Jamie (Will Estes); his daughter Assistant District Attorney Erin (Bridget Moynahan), and her daughter, Nicky (Sami Gayle). Others stars have come and gone, such as Jennifer Esposito as Detective Jackie Curatola and Amy Carlson as Danny’s wife, Linda. But Len, Tom, Donnie, Will, Bridget, and Sami have carried on the legacy through the years.
