Dexter Reboot: Jennifer Carpenter To Return To The Series As Dead Debra

We don’t know how zombie apocalyptic the Dexter reboot will likely get, but two key characters that fans of the show know as being dead will be returning to the series. So far, even though there’s a hint of their return being a flashback, nothing has been revealed yet, but the promise to fans that the writers will not erase the last eight years and act like it didn’t happen. Here’s what we know so far of Jennifer Carpenter’s announced return to the series.
Dexter Reboot – Jennifer Carpenter’s Return To Dexter Revival Details
Jennifer Carpenter played the titular character Dexter’s sister for many years on the show, and was dramatically killed off in the disappointing 2013 series finale. Following news of a revival, It’s been announced that Jennifer Carpenter, along with another deceased character, Trinity Killer Arthur Mitchell (played by John Lithgow), will be returning to the series.
Carpenter had previously talked about the possibility of returning to the series as Debra. “[It would take] an extraordinary script many, many, many years from now,” she told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “I don’t know if that’s possible because people don’t come back from the dead.”
While Carpenter is not assured of the means her beloved character will be brought back, co-star Lithgow recently teased his expectations of the scope of his and Debra’s deceased characters return.
“As all Dexter fans know, we saw the end of the Trinity Killer, so that by definition means it’s a flashback,” he told Deadline in an interview.
“It was just wonderful to rejoin that gang—including Michael and Jennifer Carpenter and [showrunner] Clyde Phillips,” he said, adding, “They don’t take it into a different era, but it’s in a different part of the world, a different part of the country, and a whole new cast of characters.”
Dexter Reboot – Wonderful Surprises
As for Showtime’s upcoming 10-episode season, he promised fans “all sorts of wonderful surprises and callbacks from the first few seasons.”
Rumors of Carpenter’s possible appearance in the new series revival started last month, when the Limitless star shared a picture of herself on Instagram decked out in Deb’s trademark horizontal stripes.

Dexter Reboot – Dexter Revival Details
According to reports, the timeline in the new Dexter revival is set to pick up nearly a decade after fans saw the widely panned series finale, as Dexter now resides in the fictional Upstate New York small town of Iron Lake.
In October last year, it was announced that Michael C Hall will be returning to the series to reprise his famed titular character, Dexter Morgan, the moonlighting serial killer whose day job is as a blood spatter expert within the local police department for the revival.
Carnivale and Billions actor Clancy Brown will play the revival’s primary antagonist Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of Iron Lake, as seen in the teaser.
Showrunner Philips noted in a recent interview that the revival is not being made to right any perceived wrongs from the 2013 finale.
“We’re not undoing anything,” he assured. “We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream.’ What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years.”
Nothing much is known of the plot, except what we learned from new cast member Jamie Chung, who teased that the reboot will be darker than anything fans have witnessed before on the show. Who’s ready?
