Law & Order: Organized Crime spoilers and updates tease Dylan McDermott is returning to the show as Richard Wheatley in the upcoming second season. The actor is expected to appear in eight episodes of the new season.
Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) won’t be resting for a while since he’ll be going head to head once again with his season 1 nemesis. McDermott was a series regular in the first season. His new deal with NBC landed him on a recurring spot for season 2 of the Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit spinoff.
The show was renewed back in May. Prior to the renewal, franchise creator Dick Wolf said that the upcoming season will have a total of 24 episodes, which will be divided into three eight-episode arcs.
“The first third of the season is The Godfather. The second third is American Gangster. And the last third is Scarface,” Wolf said.
“And these villains are going to be really bad guys that give [Stabler] a constant source of energy, outrage, belief in justice, and a different way of pursuing criminals than we’ve had before,” he added.
SVU/Organized Crime Crossover Events
Wolf also teased that there may be more crossover events between SVU and Organized Crime, which means Elliot Stabler will have another chance to fix his troubled friendship with SVU’s Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).
“We’re going to do it whenever it gives both shows a different way to shine,” Wolf said and cited the crossovers that happened in his Chicago Fire/P.D./Med shows.

For fans who are wondering why he can’t just put Liv and Elliot in the same show again, Wolf explained that it won’t be exciting if that happens. He prefers having them in different shows because he believes it’s “much more engaging.”
