Greenleaf: Lynn Whitfield Talks Spinoff

Greenleaf: Lynn Whitfield Is a Greenleaf spinoff coming?  TVLine recently spoke with Lynn Whitfield, the actress behind the iconic Lady Mae in the television series Greenleaf. The character has proven that she is a force to be reckoned with, both in her power struggling family and as an eloquent speaker for the church.

The media outlet asked her if there were any plans to develop a spinoff based on her character Lady Mae and she gave a sketchy answer. While her answer is not enough to make fans of the character anticipate the arrival of the spinoff as a given, it didn’t dismiss the possibility either.

Lynn Whitfield On Lady Mae Spinoff

Actress Lynn Whitfield, 68, revealed some tantalizing details during her interview. The Greenleaf series follows the Greenleaf family, which runs a megachurch in Memphis, and while they present a loving and caring image for the public, within their inner circle, they’re consumed with greed and lust.

The series immediately gained massive fans and viewers upon its 2016 debut, with its last episode airing on 11 August, 2020.

Asked if she had any news about the series creator, Craig Wright, working on a spinoff focused on her character, she replied, “Well, he’s working. I’ve not read anything, but I know that he’s been working on it, and you know how brilliant he is.”

“Craig, with all of his gusto, all of his talent and creativity… I think he’s thinking about it quite a lot. And we have had some conversations,” Whitfield teased. “But, you know, the nature of our relationship is so funny.”

The star added that Wright occasionally asks for her inputs when creating the character of Lady Mae, “He’ll say, ‘What would Lady Mae like — red or white or blue?’” she quipped.

“I’ll say, ‘Oh, blue,’ and he’ll say, ‘OK, got it,’” she continued. “And then he goes off and comes back with something brilliant. So we have had a few of those kinds of conversations. We just have to wait to see where we end up.”

Like the fans, Whitney shared that she can’t wait to continue seeing where her character Lady Mae will land, especially since she recently became a widow, “I think it would be fun to see where she lands.”
