Washington was reportedly fired on Grey’s Anatomy as cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Preston Burke, after being accused of giving insulting remarks at T. R. Knight last 2006. In his recent interview at KBLA Talk 1580, he told the host Tavis Smiley that he was being used as a “scapegoat” to cover up some issues on the ABC’s hit medical drama.
“It was an agenda to cover up for the toxic and bad behavior of many of my former castmates on that show and the top of that would be Patrick Dempsey,” he revealed.
The issue he mentioned is the “toxic behavior” of Patrick Dempsey where he got to terrorize the people on set, which allegedly led the producers to put an end to his character on the series. He mentioned that Ellen Pompeo took an amount of $5 million during the height of “#MeToo” to not unveil how awful Patrick Dempsey was. She then reportedly signed the $20 million contract of “Grey’s” and became the highest-paid woman on TV.
Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers – Isaiah Washington Reveals He Audtioned As Dr. Derek Shepherd
Before he got the role of a cardiothoracic surgeon, Isaiah Washington shared that he initially auditioned for Patrick Dempsey’s character as the neurosurgeon hero, Derek Shepherd. He did not get the role though, for Ellen Pompeo doesn’t like the idea of a black actor as her on-screen partner.
Last 2013, Pompeo mentioned at the New York Post that she doesn’t like Isaiah Washington to be her love interest because it would be “too close to home” to be one of the interracial couples on screen, and Isaiah revealed it’s because the actress had a black boyfriend, and she was uncomfortable with it.
