Grey’s executive producer Meg Marinis has teased about “Mermac” coupling following season 17’s finale which saw Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Hayes (Richard Flood) share a bottle of whiskey in the doctor’s lounge. “They need to have an official drink, if you will,” the EP teased.
Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers – Romance Is On The Horizon
Speaking to TVLine, Marinis talked about Meredith, who went through a “wringer” last season not just for battling COVID-19 on her deathbed but for losing another love interest, Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti). But Marinis excites fans by revealing that the show has more in store for its viewers, one by lining up a rival romance for Meredith’s late husband Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
However, Marinis clarified Meredith is not actively looking for a lover but teased: “now, does that mean it won’t possibly find her?”
The EP explained it’s because Meredith just escaped the brink of death because of the virus and it’s clear that her career and her family have always been her priorities. Marinis also pictured out that Hayes was the one more interested in Meredith even when she was glued to her hospital bed the last season.
Regarding how and when will romance find Meredith is for the audience to discover, especially that Meredith’s former rival Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) is confirmed to be returning to ABC’s medical show. Will the two be butting heads again?
Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers – More Romance Storylines Blossoming In Season 18
Aside from Meredith’s new love interest as season 18 rolls out, it was also confirmed that more couples in the medical drama will fill the air with love.
In July this year, Marinis dropped the names of the Grey’s couple to season the show with their love stories including the newly wed Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) and Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) arriving home from their honeymoon, whom the EP described as “very much in love.”
To rival their story are Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) who are getting stronger than ever after both struggled with PTSD last season.
“They’ll still face challenges as a couple, but we took them a long way last season, so we’re happy where they are,” Marinis told TVLine. Keep checking Celebrating The Soaps for more Grey’s Anatomy spoilers, news, and updates.
