According to US Weekly, Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, as well as the star, Ellen Pompeo, has said that the long-running series will conclude when Pompeo decides to leave.
So when might that be?
Grey’s Anatomy News – The Road Less Traveled
Grey’s Anatomy, which first hit the small screen in March of 2005, and it’s had a good run through the years, but writers want to be sure that fans are happy with the ending when it comes.
According to Us Weekly, Pompeo said that she hadn’t thought that she would be on the show as long as she has been, adding that it’s been a great platform for her, allowing her to stay home with her kids without having to travel and “have the circus life of an actor.”
“I thought that it wasn’t the road less traveled,” she told Variety in 2020, about staying on one show for so many years, adding that “actually it is the road less traveled.”
Grey’s Anatomy – Ellen Pompeo’s Struggle for Equal Pay
She went on the explain that, though she has “no expectations” about the eventual end to Grey’s Anatomy she has her own idea for Merideth’s final hurrah.
As fans may know, Pompeo opened up in 2018 about her struggle for equal pay on the series, especially after having carried the show for 14 seasons, even attempting negotiations with her former costar Patrick Dempsey who exited the show in 2015.
She told reporters that they could always, and did, use Dempsey against her, saying, “We don’t need you; we have Patrick,” when she made waves over her salary.
Grey’s Anatomy News – The End Is Probably Not Near – We Hope
It’s worth noting that Pompeo eventually got what she was asking for and subsequently became one of the highest-paid female actors on television at nearly $20 million a year.
So though the show has had a long run and fans fear it may be ending, we think fans can relax.
While she is the highest-paid female actor on TV today, it’s doubtful she is going to be in a hurry to leave and so the show must go on – at least for now.
Episode 5 of the season is set to air on November 11 at 8 PM Central time on ABC.
If you prefer to stream your TV, you can find Grey’s Anatomy on Hulu Live at the same time.
