Law And Order Law And Order: Special Victims Unit (typically referred to as Law And Order: SVU) spoilers have gotten fans excited about the upcoming premiere of season 23.

But now a bombshell no one saw coming just dropped. Some key cast members will exit Law And Order: SVU amid bombshells for the season 23 premiere plot! Find out everything you need to know about season 23 of Law And Order: SVU below. Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Law And Order Spoilers – SVU Season 23 Bids Farewell To Two Cast Stars

We know that key cast members do sometimes disrupt a plot by leaving.

But such departures typically occur during or as part of a season finale, allowing the show’s fall premiere to smoothly continue.

We saw such a situation recently in Chicago Med, for instance. The season 6 finale gave original cast stars Yaya Dacosta (ER nurse April Sexton) and Torrey DeVitto (Dr. Natalie Manning) their farewell performances.

As a result of such expectations, since no such season 22 finale exits occurred, we might assume that we can start season 23 of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU with all key characters continuing for the entire series.

Wrong.

Not just one but two of the series’ biggest stars’ exits will feature in the season 23 premiere episode, per Deadline.

The two-hour season 23 premiere, scheduled for Thursday, September 23, will reveal the exits of Officer Kat Tamin (portrayed by Jamie Gray Hyder) and Deputy Chief Christian Garland (played by Demore Barnes).

Hyer and Barnes became recurring characters in season 23, receiving promotions to Law And Order: SVU series regulars for season 22.

Given the apparently unplanned for exits of these two stars, how will the premiere account for their departure? Keep reading for clues!

What Happens In Season 23 Premiere SVU?

The premiere of Law And Order: SVU takes place over two episodes.

As a result, to form a bridge from the season 22 finale, season 23 begins by continuing the story of Catalina Machado (Zabryna Guevara).

Arrested for trafficking single mothers living in shelters, Catalina looks to flip on her housing-for-sex scheme bosses in order to make a deal with the law.

How will the NYPD and SVU squad respond when Catalina indulges in name-dropping, with a well-known congressman as the bait?

The first hour of the premiere, “And the Empire Strikes Back,” tests loyalties as witnesses hesitate.

During the second episode, “Never Turn Your Back on Them,” a missing witness sends both Fin and Kat down a potentially dangerous rabbit hole.

Law And Order Spoilers – Who Stars In Season 23 Of Law And Order: SVU?

With the departures of those two key cast members, fans might feel concerned about other stars exiting.

But at this point, NBC shows that the rest of the main cast remains.

Cast members slated to appear in season 23 of Law And Order: SVU include Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson, Ice T as Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, Kelli Giddish as Det. Amanda Rollins, and Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Sonny Carisi.

Bringing Detective Elliot Stabler back was a mistake. His storyline is all over the place and his acting is one-dimensional.
