‘Law & Order: SVU’ Brings Back An Old Favorite For Special 600th Episode

What We Know About Chris Meloni’s Return to ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) will be reuniting in the not-so-distant future, as the long-running procedural, ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ marks a major 600th milestone episode. You can’t believe it’s been that long either, can you?

But it has, and the network means to recognize it in a grand and special way, by reuniting two of our favorite old-timers in the law enforcement world, Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler.

If fans can recall, the last time these characters crossed paths was outside a wake for their former boss, Capt. Donald Cragen at the start of ‘SVU’s’ 27th season.

In the brief moment, Stabler finally opened up about the true nature of his feelings for Benson, who, though he’s had a long enduring friendship with, he’s also been near-romantic with at certain points. However, this shouldn’t have been the very last time that these characters were together.

According to showrunner Michele Fazekas, there were still a few more scripts to burn before Stabler exited the show once again, but scheduling conflicts cut in on it.

“When I was on the show,” said Fazekas– an ‘SVU’ writer from seasons 3 to 7 – “it was Benson and Stabler… I want to use him as much as he can, but also, I don’t want to stunt it, or do it for no reason. It has to mean something.”

Now that the special is being done and Meloni has been booked to appear on it, perhaps old scripts can resurface. Not to say we won’t be fine with freshly written materials, either. But, I know we all still want the Benson and Stabler dynamic to be at the forefront of this reunion, don’t we?

A day after GiveMeMyRemote first broke the news, Hargitay decided to do her own version of hint-dropping on social media.

She shared a picture of herself and Meloni, who has his shiny bald head turned towards the camera, captioning it “WHO DAT.” In the second picture, she and Meloni are both facing the camera, with bright smiles on their faces.

She captioned this one, “Happy 600…”

The special 600th episode is slated to air on November 12, halfway through SVU’s 28th season, set to premiere on October 8.
