Law & Order: Special Victims Unit/Law & Order: Organized Crime Spoilers – Elliot Stabler Returns After Suffering A Devastating Personal Loss

According to the synopsis of the pilot episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime which plays on that night’s episode of Law & Order: Special Victims unit and continues in the premiere of “Organized Crime”, Elliot has suffered a devastating personal loss. Whether that means something dire has happened to some of his family or not remains to be seen. Three of them, his wife Kathy Stabler (Isabel Gillies), one of his daughters, Kathleen Stabler, (Allison Siko) and one of their sons, Dickie Stabler (Jeffrey Scaperrotta) will appear in the crossover episodes. However, there are no hints about the rest of his family. Elliot now leads an elite task force targeting organized crime, and in the SVU portion of the crossover, “Return of The Prodigal Son” the squad is protecting the Stabler family after a threat.

In the season twenty-one finale, showrunner Warren Leight had mentioned in a podcast about Kathy coming back with one of her sons in trouble. This could be what is happening in this episode. In the SVU portion of the crossover, the reunion between former partners Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler takes place. The only other SVU member left on the squad from when Elliot was part of it is Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutola (Ice-T), with the others either retired or moved away. Longtime SVU viewers will recall that Captain Donald Cragen, (Dann Florek) and Detective John Munch (Richard Belzer) were part of the original team, along with Benson and Stabler. Fin showed up in the second season.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit/Law & Order: Organized Crime Spoilers – Has Elliot Stabler Lost One Or More Family Members To A Mob Hit?

Elliot’s devastating personal loss is what leads him to re-enter police work and fight organized crime. While spoilers do not say where the rest of his family is, or if Kathy, Dickie and Kathleen will also appear in “Organized Crime” they are definitely in the pilot on SVU. Benson and her team are at a crime scene, with what appears to be a burned car being attended to by firemen. She hears Elliot call her name from a distance, and she knows his voice! She looks shocked, as neither she nor Fin have heard from him the entire ten years he has been gone! None of his family has been seen either, since he left SVU in 2011.

Elliot mentions that he didn’t handle his leaving SVU very well, as he and Fin catch up with one another in a restaurant. Fin tells him he didn’t handle it at all, and Fin is talking about when Elliot had turned in his resignation papers after been forced to shoot a young girl inside the precinct, who had been armed. More recently, he probably would have been forced to talk to an NYPD psychologist and take some time off, but Elliot just left without talking to anyone at all-he just turned in his resignation papers to Captain Cragen, and Cragen was the one who told Olivia and that he couldn’t do anything about Elliot’s sudden exit.
