For many a seasons, we’ve seen Olivia Benson battle through many traumatic and harsh experiences, from the ones that happen to her through her line of work, to her personal life and relationships. This season, the creators have decided to take us into the inner workings of her mind, and we’re happy to see how she’s healing from the pains of her past.
Mariska Hargitay Says The Show’s 25th Season Will Be Getting More “Psychological”
25 seasons in and Mariska Hargitay still manages to get excited for the things that are happening on the hit crime drama.
On February 8, the “Law and Order: SVU” star and executive producer stopped by at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. That same day also saw the airing of the fourth episode of the newly launched season.
“I feel like we’re dropping in in a new way,” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “We’re getting more psychological into the bad guy’s minds and going more deeply into Olivia Benson’s mind,” she teased. “And it is a year sort of dedicated [to] and the arc is about healing because obviously my character has been exposed to so much darkness and that goes somewhere. So trying to process it and deal with it.”
This, of course, is something fans have seen, as the latest episode shows us Benson in therapy, talking about how Maddie’s disappearance is still weighing on her mind (Maddie being the teen from the premiere that went missing).
The therapist then points out to Benson that Maddie will likely not be the only missing child she’s encountered in her long career with the SVU, so what makes her different? Well, Benson will love to know too.
The therapist then asks her to explore the possibility that the girl’s disappearance isn’t the only thing weighing on her mind. She said: “Is it possible it’s not just this case that’s troubling you, but certain other unknowns?”
However, apart from her personal troubles, Benson has something exciting to look forward to. And that’s the “new contingent of female investigators.” For Hargitay, “it’s always new energy and it’s always learning.”
