Michael Weatherly Reveals the “Unfinished” Character NCIS Might Bring Back

For 13 years, Michael Weatherly starred on NCIS alongside co-star Mark Harmon. But it seems that even after more than a decade of appearing on the hit show, his story is not yet concluded. See what he has to say about a potential return.

Michael Weatherly Reveals This Surprising NCIS News

In 2016, after playing Tony DiNozzo for 13 years on NCIS, Weatherly exited the CBS crime drama. But this exit could possibly not be the last time Weatherly gets to wear his DiNozzo hat on the long-running show.

When a fan asked the star to pick his favorite character from two of his big roles – options were his NCIS character Tony DiNozzo and his “Bull” character Dr. Jason Bull – he used the opportunity to share some eye-opening news that hugely delighted fans.

“I suppose you left out Logan Cale on purpose…” the star began before adding, “There will be more DiNozzo someday because he is the one character that felt unfinished… that’s my plan! We shall see…”

Of course, this by no means confirms his return, but if an NCIS executive were to see the overwhelming response from fans for this bit of news, they might really consider the idea.

“M_Weatherly that’s awesome Michael, thanks for the continued mystery of the unknown to look forward to. Shall I say welcome back DiNozzo,” one fan excitedly wrote, while another added, “Fingers crossed your plan will be accomplished in the near future amazing news that you consider continuing with Dinozzo character.”

Other commenters freely confessed to how much they missed Weatherly’s DiNozzo on the show.

This new bit of NCIS news comes on the heels of speculations that Weatherly could return to the drama following the passing of David McCallum – aka Ducky Mallard – in September last year.

As 2023 rounded up, the showrunners Steven D. Binder and David North shared their plans to run a tribute episode on NCIS for McCallum’s Mallard.

While information around this “special” episode is still being kept tighter than a safe, old characters we haven’t seen in a while will no doubt be gracing our screens again.

All in all, the co-showrunners promised us “a very touching and special moment you won’t want to miss,” so fingers crossed we get to see our favorites.
