NCIS: Los Angeles Spoilers – Is Hetty Lange Really Not Coming Back?

In the most recent episode of NCIS: Los Angeles, Retired Navy Admiral Hollace Kilbride (Gerald McRaney) told acting NCIS Operations Manager Nell Jones (Renée Felice Smith) that Hetty wasn’t coming back and Nell had better get used to acting more like she’s in charge instead of just filling in for Hetty! Kilbride had some rather negative things to say about how Hetty had run the ship which Nell likely didn’t care to hear, and didn’t respond to. Nell talked throughout the episode about how she didn’t like taking Hetty’s place and wished she had never said yes to her when she was asked to “babysit” the Office of Special Projects and the team in Hetty’s absence!

Since the beginning of this season, we have only seen Hetty as she communicated remotely via videos from an unknown location. She is always in combat gear including a bulletproof vest, and the sounds of war can be heard in the background. Hetty herself says she is nowhere she wants to be but yet, there she is. She is keeping the details secret. She asked Nell to come back to NCIS (she had stepped out for a family leave of absence taking care of her ill mother, who is now deceased) to take over for her – and she meant take over everything! Hetty does occasionally assign cases via cryptic messages, like the one that lead to dead CIA agents, and got former Los Angeles Police Department liaison Marty Deeks (Eric Christan Olsen) into NCIS as an investigator.

NCIS: Los Angeles Spoilers – Are There Any Clues To Hetty Lange’s Return?

There are not very many clues to Hetty’s return so far, and she has barely been seen or heard from and it is already fourteen episodes into the season! Kilbride stopped by to help the team and of course to check up on them, as he has several times in the past, and while he was there this time complained about the fishbowl of an office that Hetty used and Nell now occupies. He also complained about her controversial methods and that was when he dropped the bomb that Hetty may never come back..although since he doesn’t know where she is or what she’s up to any more than anyone else, it turns out that it was only his opinion. He verified that Hetty hadn’t communicated with him but said to Nell that Hetty has had her foot out the door of NCIS much longer than Nell has. It was his counsel

that it was high time that they both accept that Hetty is on her last mission and she was not coming back. The team had been preparing, just in case, for Hetty’s eventual retirement for some time now, and even discussed who might be best to take her place – although Hetty’s personal pick is Nell. The team had to track down Hetty who had gotten into trouble in Vietnam a few years ago and they discuss that they may have to track her down again. Fans hope to find something out before the season finale on May 23, and many have commented that the show is not the same without Hetty on the show’s social media accounts and they want her back! They should be relieved that the show’s Instagram account recently wished Linda Hunt a Happy Birthday with a nice photo of her as Hetty with her signature teacup!
