Viewers know that Hetty unexpectedly left the office and none of her co-workers knew where she went. She eventually made a brief appearance last season through a video link. In the 13th season, viewers will finally see Hetty rejoin the team after showrunners confirm her return.

Hetty is a staple in the show and her role in the team includes managing the Office of Special Projects and providing the team with the equipment they need for their cases. Before she left, she handed over her role to Nell Jones (Renee Felice Smith) and promoted Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) to NCIS Liaison Officer. Hetty was seen donning camouflage and a bulletproof vest during her video chat with the team.

Her team had no idea that she conducted a secret investigation to get rid of moles in their squad. Fans may recall that Agent Grisha Callen (Chris O’Donnell) was wrongly arrested for allegedly being a Russian spy. So, Hetty had to free agents who have been imprisoned for allegedly pretending to be journalists in Syria.

Fans Worry About Hetty’s Absence

When she disappeared on the show, a lot of fans immediately noticed and wondered where Hetty went. Some even wondered if she’ll ever return or if she’s gone for good.

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill made it clear that Hetty isn’t going anywhere. Gemmill revealed that Lange, who portrays Hetty, is excited to be back since she’s been away for so long.

So when Gemmill saw Hunt, she was like “Let’s talk about next season so I think that as tough as last year was, for a lot of reasons, she, like the rest of us, is starting to see a little light at the end of the tunnel and feels good about coming back to work.” He also hinted that fans will see a good amount of Hetty next season.

Hunt’s absence was due to the coronavirus restrictions. The 75-year-old actress belongs to the vulnerable category. So, for her protection, she had to shoot some of the episodes she was in last season at home. Fortunately, Hunt completed all her vaccines and can now return to work.
