Ken Urker, the partner of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, was found dead inside his Raceland, Louisiana home on October 1, 2026. It happened on his 34th birthday. Since then, more details arrived, so read on to find out what’s happening.
What the Deputies Found
On NewsNation on Friday night, Brian Entin spoke with TMZ’s Senior News Producer Charlie Neff, who recounted more about what was found at the “grim” scene inside the residence.
When deputies arrived, they found Urker deceased in his bed. A syringe sat on a nightstand next to him, while a holstered handgun was also found nearby. In a nearby bathroom. investigators discovered additional syringes, “a spoon,” and a “brown powdery substance.”

Deputies were dispatched to the home after “family and friends requested a welfare check” because Urker had threatened “suicide for some time.”
One caller mentioned they knew he owned a firearm, and another one said he was in a “dark place.”
Who Called The Cops?
Before police got to the residence, Blanchard’s brother Dylan arrived at the house. They “worked together for a landscape surveying company,” and Dylan grew worried when Urker failed to show up for work on his birthday.
Seeing Urker’s car parked in the driveway, Dylan knocked without getting an answer. He then climbed in “through a window,” found Urker inside his bedroom, and contacted authorities.
Is There Foul Play?
Brian Entin asked if there’s any suspicion of foul play. Neff said authorities had found no signs of foul play at that point and noted that the report listed a “suspected overdose.” However, she stressed that the investigation is ongoing.
Addressing rumors about the couple’s status, Neff told Entin that Blanchard and Urker hadn’t broken up, though they were taking “somewhat of a break” to give each other space.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard had been “staying with her parents, (her father and stepmother) for two weeks” while moving items between apartments.
Neff also talked about how Urker recognized his struggle with alcohol, attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in recent months, and “an empty Crown Royal box” was turned up while moving his items just two days prior to his death.
The coverage also discussed Blanchard, who reportedly blamed “cyberbullying” for weighing heavily on Urker and their relationship.
Other Reporting
NBC News confirmed that deputies found Ken Urker “cold to the touch with a blue face and arms.” The outlet also cited Blanchard’s statement to People magazine, where she said she believes he died of an overdose, though she was unsure if it was intentional.
She explained that he was in a “bad state of mind” and had suffered “relentless cyberbullying.”
According to The Guardian, the pair originally connected years ago while Blanchard was serving her sentence for her mother’s murder.
The outlet reported that Blanchard said Urker sent her a “supportive letter, not on any kind of romantic level” that included his phone number.
Urker proposed in October 2018, but they later ended their engagement. Blanchard married Ryan Anderson, but they split and later, she and Ken Urker got back together again. They later welcomed their baby girl, Aurora.
Gypsy’s Background
Blanchard became a household name after she arranged to kill her mom, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, in Springfield, Missouri.
Blanchard has said her mother subjected her to years of medical abuse, historically described as Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
Gypsy conspired with Nicholas Godejohn, whom she met online, to kill Dee Dee. She let Godejohn into the home, where he stabbed Dee Dee to death while Gypsy hid in the bathroom.
Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and served over seven years of a ten-year sentence before her parole release in December 2023.
Godejohn received a life sentence without parole for first-degree murder.
