Showtime Debuts Dexter Revival Teaser – Michael C. Hall Gets Back To Satisfying His Bloodlust

‘Dexter’Showtime has released the first teaser for “Dexter” ahead of its upcoming revival for season 9. The teaser was uploaded on social media with a caption that reads: “Nature is calling.” The 10-second clip shows footage of an ax attached to a tree trump with a fire burning in the background on a snowy day.

“There really is nothing like getting back to nature. My nature,” Dexter (Michael C. Hall) said in the teaser.

‘Dexter’ News – Same Old, Same Old

Showtime released the first revival teaser after months from its announcement of a 10-episode for the serial killer drama in October last year. The official logline states: “Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami.”

“Dexter” season eight finale aired in 2013, with a controversial ending that frustrated many fans even years after it was shown. Dexter faked his own death and retreated to a solitary life with a different identity as a lumberjack in Oregon.

The teaser hinted at Dexter getting back to his murderous nature and satisfying his bloodlust. The series’ showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed it on Entertainment Tonight.

“Dexter always has what we call ‘the dark passenger’ living inside him. He is more grounded than he’s ever been, but that dark passenger is a voice he cannot deny. This is Dexter. People are going to die,” Phillips teased.

‘Dexter’ News – A Decade-Long Time Jump

With this revival series happening after a decade-long time jump, fans have been speculating if the writers will give justice to how season eight ended. But the show boss Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast, after the revival series announcement last year, that they are “not undoing anything.”

“In so far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale for our show, and Showtime was very gracious about that,” he explained.

Phillips pointed out they are doing the revival series because of the fans’ huge hunger for Dexter but they are not going to betray the audience by saying the finale was all a dream. “What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years.”

Michael C. Hall is the only original cast member to return in the upcoming season to revive the character that made him a household name. In an interview with ET in January Hall was being asked why the time is right for him to relive Dexter this year. Hall answered with: “This one, a lot of it has to do with time passed… It was a combination of the scripts and the timing. I always thought maybe the time will reveal itself when it’s the right time to do it and it did. And I’m excited.”

Although the cast started filming in February, there is no official premiere date for now.
