Showtime Drops New Confirmation Teaser For DEXTER Revival In Fall

Showtime has released a new teaser for “Dexter” Revival, which confirmed its previous announcements for season 9 to premiere in fall.

The 31-second long footage starts with zooming out a snow-covered forest with a fire burning in an outdoor fireplace. The camera shifts to Dexter Morgan’s reflection while staring out the window. While Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” is playing in the background, a person whose reflection on the same window reveals they’re struggling while being wrapped in something cries a faint scream. Just seconds long, Dexter turns around, faces the camera, and gives his signature smile.

A week before the “Misunderstood” teaser was released, Showtime teased on Dexter’s murderous nature with a 10-second video featuring the same scene of a snowy place, an ax resting on a tree stump, and a fire burning in the background with the caption “Nature is calling.” However, the latest teaser did not include an ax, which hinted at Dexter no longer working as a lumberjack.

Revived Together

Gary Levine and Jana Winograde, Presidents of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. in October last year first officially announced Dexter’s Revival after nearly 8 years since its season 8 ended in 2013.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this year, Hall also agreed with how everyone else reacted to the “unsatisfying” ending of the original series. Sharing his confusion with the viewers, he said: “He [Dexter] had been talking to us the whole time and he just stared at the camera and it was over. He put his sister in the ocean. What the hell was that?”

Hall told ET’s Ash Crossan that he was offered three times to return as Dexter before he finally said yes to this revival because “none of them felt right.”

The limited series which will more likely be a 10-hour movie has not only revived Hall as the main character but also reunited big people behind the success of the original series. Season four of the original is arguably considered as the show’s peak, with its impressive dramatic effect with the best villain then Emmy-winning guest star John Lithgow’s. However, Phillips left the series to spend more time with family, and not long after his exit, Dexter’s later seasons started to be hazy.

“We kind of just got the creative band back together again. Clyde Phillips is back, who was the showrunner for the first four seasons, running the show. And Marcos Siega, who is one of the directors,” Hall revealed.

Hall also quipped he is hoping for one thing that the revival will address. “I don’t know if they’re going to go for it, but I’m angling for him to be running his own pizza restaurant… just because, you know, I don’t need to explain why that would be awesome.”
