When HoYeon Jung’s character died in the first season of the famous “Squid Game”, fans thought they’ve seen the last of the rising star in the series. But “Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk just told us otherwise.
HoYeon Is Ready To Do A “Little Plastic Surgery” In Order To Return For “Squid Game” Two
What’s better than one character for brilliant South Korean actress HoYeon Jung? Two! The actress and model, whose international fame skyrocketed with the horror drama film, could be returning for the second season. No, it’s not as a zombie.
As you probably know, most of the beloved characters in the “Squid Game” Universe sadly didn’t make it out of the first season alive, so it’s a little tricky for the creator to continue the series. However, he’s looking for a way to bring back some of your favorite characters.
Speaking about season 2 to Deadline over the weekend, the Netflix movie’s writer and creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, shared that he’s looking into the possibility of bringing back some of the deceased characters.
“Most of them are dead,” Hwang told the outlet of the characters. “I’ll try something to bring them back to season 2.”
Gesturing to Jung, who was beside him during the interview, he said: “Let’s say maybe she has a twin sister, you’ll see.”
Ho-yeon jokingly added: “I could change my hair color. Let’s do a little like plastic surgery.”
Although Hwang previously did not anticipate working on another “Squid Game” series, he confirmed that he’s in talks with Netflix to develop, not just the second season, but the third one as well. Squid Game quickly became Netflix’s biggest movie when it debuted in 2021 with 111 million viewers. It inspired memes and even led an internet revolution months after its release.
The South Korean thriller follows the journey of 456 contestants who are lured into playing children’s games with dire consequences for the losers.
Late last year, Hwang admitted that the season one finale episode served as a good ending for the series. In light of the show’s success, Hwang is now considering more plotlines.
“There will be more great games, that’s all I can say,” Hwang told Deadline. “I’m just still brainstorming and collecting the ideas for season 2. I haven’t even started with the writing yet.”

HoYeon Jung’s Role In “Squid Game”
Believe it or not, the massive “Squid Game” is HoYeon Jung’s first gig. But before becoming internationally famous, the 27-year-old star walked in Seoul Fashion Week for two years.
She played the character of Kang Sae-byeok, or Player 067, a skilled pickpocket who enters the game in the hopes of winning the prize money and providing a better life for herself and her younger brother. After a series of intense games, the character loses her life.
HoYeon went on to win the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
