Find out what Probst now admits to feeling about that melting idol. And keep reading to learn how that same idol resulted in a contestant’s exit (spoiler alert!).

Survivor Spoilers – Melt That Idol!

Jeff Probst began Survivor season 45 thinking that he’d seen everything. And then came the idol melting at Tribal Council. As the Survivor host reflected on watching that happen, he revealed via EW that he even debated whether it seemed fair.

But Probst also made it clear that neither he nor the producers ever anticipated that happening at the traditional Tribal Council. That part of Survivor always includes a fire pit. And the contestants gather around the fire, waiting for Probst to deliver their fates. However, the newest episode of Survivor 45 turned the fire pit from a scene feature to a part of the game.

Sabiyah Broderick of the Lulu tribe discovered a hidden immunity idol. Encased in wax, the idol required melting in the tribe fire. But the Lulu tribe already lost the immunity challenge. As a result, they possessed no flint or fire to melt the wax.

And then Sabiyah took the idol in wax to Tribal Council. She put it in the fire so that the wax could melt off. And Probst confessed on Survivor’s On Fire podcast, “We never considered that somebody would find this idol and still not have fire, and then be smart enough adapting to use the Tribal Council fire.”

Survivor Spoilers – Jeff Probst Gives Props

And on the podcast, Probst confessed he questioned if using the Tribal Council fire seemed fair. But he admitted, “When she puts it in the fire, yes, there is a part of me going, ‘This is fair, right?’ Because all the note says is, ‘You’ve got to burn the wax’.”

And the Survivor host gave the contestant props for her clever action. “I gave Sabiyah a lot of credit for saying, ‘Yeah, the only fire I have in my life right now, Jeff, is at Tribal when I’m going to vote somebody out.’ I thought it was really cool.”

But Sabiyah didn’t realize the full impact of that idol. And if she gave up her vote, it would expand the power of the idol to the occasion when the three tribes headed to the same beach. As a result, Sabiyah needed to think quickly.

Survivor Spoilers  – A Risk Turns Into An Exit!

“I thought it was really interesting that you then get to see Sabiyah, she’s just accomplished this amazing goal,” pointed out Probst. “And she’s got it, and she’s got her vote back. Now she goes up in the booth. And you watch her in real time read the note and realize, ‘Oh my God, this is only good for one Tribal unless I give my vote up again.’ But because she had gotten the idol, she had gotten her vote back.”

However, Sabiyah decided to “make a big time move and risk it. Which really, you have to, right? I mean it’s an idol. You’ve got to go for it,” noted Probst. But she didn’t realize that Emily Flippen had spilled to Kaleb Gebrewold that Sabiyah had turned on him. As a result, the two turned on Sabiyah. And rather than fulfill the possibility of a 2-2 vote, she didn’t vote, getting voted out 2-1.
