Imagine scrolling through the entire Emmy nominations and not see a single mention of “Euphoria” and “Stranger Things.” Isn’t that enough to give a reasonable and decent person nightmares for a whole month? But before you go off thinking that Emmy voters must have been out of their minds to not give even one tiny award to these two mega-shows, here’s what really happened.
Emmy’s Strict Timeline Denied “Euphoria” Of Its Emmy Nominations
The Emmy timeline bends for no one, not even Zendaya and Millie Bobby Brown, even though they both basically ran last year. So what did these shows not get right that others like “Wednesday” obviously did?
Okay, you should know that to be eligible for a nomination, programs had to air between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. Prior to that, “Euphoria” season 2 has already aired, thereby making the project and its cast and crew ineligible for any Emmy nomination.
This is especially shocking because we remember that the former child star Zendaya won her first Emmy Award for her role as Rue in Euphoria. This was especially groundbreaking because she became the first black woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series twice. She also became the youngest two-time Emmy winner for acting. So you can guess just how much history “Euphoria” and the Emmys have. Too bad this history won’t be continuing this year. However, since the next season of Euphoria is set to premiere in 2025, there’s still a chance that the cast can have another shot at extending their Emmy noms/wins through the series.
While timing was the reason we didn’t see a single “Stranger Things” nomination, its case isn’t exactly like “Euphoria’s.”
The fourth season of the Netflix sci-fi series was split into two parts, with Volume 1’s seven episodes releasing on May 27, 2022 and the remaining two episodes releasing on July 1, 2022. Since volume 1 dropped before May 31, 2022, it was eligible for last year’s Emmy Awards, where it went to receive five awards out of 13 nominations.
The final two episodes missed the eligibility window for 2022, and was considered ineligible for the 2023 awards for most major categories due to new Emmys episode count criteria, as the nomination committee requires shows submit six episodes for consideration.
