This year will mark the end of ‘Yellowstone,’ even though seasons 6 and 7 were originally planned for it. However, despair not, even though creator Taylor Sheridan says the ending was rushed, he did confirm that he was still able to wrap it up the way it would have been done even if there were subsequent seasons.
Prior to Kevin Costner exiting the series to work on his own Western drama ‘Horizon,’ the show’s first four and a half seasons have revolved around the Dutton family, with patriarch Costner’s John Dutton at the helm. However, Costner has agreed to return to wrap up the series. But what kind of ending will it now get?
Kevin Costner – Says ‘Yellowstone’ Ending In Its 5th Season Is Not His Fault
If you must know, Costner doesn’t think the show ending in its fifth season is his fault.
This Monday, Paramount Network announced that production for the second installment of season 5 has begun, with airing expected to happen through November.
While Costner did leave the show to focus on his own passion project ‘Horizon: An American Saga,’ he previously told Deadline that he would be open to returning.
“I think that they should do whatever they want to do,” Costner said. “Am I open to coming back? I’ve never been in a position to tell them what to do. I can only do what I can do.”
He used the same interview to clear up the reason the show would be ending in its 5th season, denying that he influenced the decision to do so in any way.
“I haven’t felt good about it the last year, what with the way they’ve talked about it. It wasn’t truthful. So now I’m talking a little bit about what the real truth of it was. I made a contract for seasons five, six and seven,” he told Deadline. “In February, after a two- or three-month negotiation, they made another contract.
They wanted to redo that one, and instead of seasons six and seven, it was 5A and 5B, and maybe we’ll do six. They weren’t able to make those. Horizon was set in the middle, but Yellowstone was first position. I fit [Horizon] into the gaps. They just kept moving their gaps.”
