Television viewers sometimes feel as if it’s Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s world and we just live in it. And although that world will change when Yellowstone ends, Sheridan has crafted a series of spin-offs.
Find out what to know about the final season of Yellowstone. And keep reading to learn about all the spin-offs.
Yellowstone – Set To End
The Paramount Network struck gold with Yellowstone. But alas, Taylor Sheridan’s hit show will soon ride off into the TV world’s version of the sunset. However, even as the Kevin Costner-lead series concludes in November 2024, the Yellowstone universe will continue, per the Hollywood Reporter.
Because the Yellowstone prequel 1883 also became a hit, creator Sheridan crafted 1923. And the network renewed that spin-off last year. However, the Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strike put the production on hold for both 1923 and Yellowstone.
But when the strikes ended and everyone returned to the studio, the Paramount Network announced that the shows had resumed production. And in addition, the Yellowstone universe expands again with two new spin-offs.
Yellowstone – Breaks Records
In its fifth and final season, the Dutton family saga scored in breaking rating records. But after beginning the Yellowstone flagship series in 2018, the Paramount Network starts the new season amid drama for the show’s lead Kevin Costner.
Because Costner hit an impasse over his filming schedule, Yellowstone experienced a production delay. As a result, the Paramount Network revealed that the show would end with its fifth season. However, it remains unknown as to how and when Yellowstone creator Sheridan will pen the character’s exit.
And Costner will co-star with Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley and Luke Grimes in the fifth season. However, a licensing arrangement meant that Yellowstone streamed only on Peacock, backed by NBC Universal. But to expand the audience, CBS has re-aired episodes on Sunday nights. And season three recently premiered on January 14.

Yellowstone – Spin-Offs Become Hits
But even as fans prepare to bid farewell to the flagship series, the Yellowstone world expands. And the prequel 1883 features star Isabel May as the narrator. May co-stars with Sam Elliott, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. An immediate hit, the show received a renewal for more episodes.
And the franchise expanded into 1923. That prequel features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. And Sheridan clarified why he chose “that moment in time to peek back in. Because you’re seeing the children that we’ve met in 1883 attempting to raise another generation of Dutton.”
But the Paramount Network also gave the green light to the first Yellowstone sequel, 2024. And taking place in the present day, it will carry on with the Dutton family saga. But although Matthew McConaughey continues talks about starring, no deal exists as yet.
And details on two other spin-offs, 1944 and 6666, remain sparse. However, the delay partly stems from Sheridan buying the property the Four Sixes ranch. And he clarified, “That, for a number of reasons, needs a unique level of special care because this is a real place with real families working here. You have to respect the lineage. I’ve told [the studio] to be patient.”
