Yellowstone Season 4 Spoilers: Kayce Dutton Faces Off With Chief Rainwater

Yellowstone spoilers for season 4 hint that the spotlight will shift to Kayce Dutton. Portrayed by Luke Grimes, Kayce has faced repeated challenges ever since his older brother died. But sneak peeks indicate that this Dutton family member may face his biggest challenge yet in the next episode.

From the terror of discovering that his son with Monica, Tate, had been kidnapped to seeking to replace his brother’s role in the Dutton clan, Kayce recently has focused more on the ranch than the Broken Rock Reservation. But Yellowstone spoilers show that all will change. And the actor who plays Kayce, Luke Grimes, offered some clues into his character’s recent past and predictions of his future. 

First, Grimes urges viewers to remember Kayce’s Navy SEAL past as an indicator of the character’s ability to survive. “So, obviously, he’s a pretty trained Special Ops guy and he happened to have his bag there that had a flash-bang in it,” pointed out Luke about the episode that threatened Kayce’s life. ” So he throws a flash-bang. He takes out the two guys that come in his office, because they’re disoriented and confused from the flash-bang, [Kayce] throws on a bulletproof vest that he has there as well. It kind of switches modes from livestock commissioner back into a badass soldier and runs out and takes care of business.”

Second, the actor emphasizes that Kayce stands out as a multi-dimensional character. For instance, he longs for his father’s approval. But at the same time, Kayce would not follow his father’s footsteps. As a result, says Grimes, viewers should remember that “there are no villains and there are no good guys; it’s about human nature and about how the people are fighting over something that’s really not any of theirs.”

Spoilers for season 4 hint that Kayce will feel torn between his love for his wife Monica and son Tate versus his loyalty for the Dutton family’s legacy. Grimes compares Kayce’s situation to Romeo and Juliet.

“Kayce obviously was living on the reservation when we first meet him. So there’s this sort of Romeo and Juliet thing there… kind of star-crossed lovers. His dad and the tribes are at war and there he is living on the wrong side of everything,” summed up the actor. “That’s a metaphorical beginning to something that never stops with him. It’s always trying to choose between what’s right. And the loyalty to family and the two don’t always mix.”

By the end of season 4, Grimes revealed that Kayce must decide between two paths. And his choice will become increasingly clear. Episode 6 will offer some clues, according to Esquire’s preview. And it also provides a bridge from Kayce’s role as Livestock Commissioner to his life on the reservation with Monica and Tate.

Spoilers hint that Chief Rainwater tells Kayce about the theft of 18 horses from Broken Rock property. And prepare for a confrontation. In response to Kayce’s defense that he doesn’t have responsible for reservation land, Chief Rainwater announces, “You do 50 yards out that way, and that’s where they went.”
