Yellowstone prequel 1923
While Yellowstone is a major hit, led by Hollywood actor Kevin Costner, the prequel series 1923 is a back story of the Dutton family, starring two great actors, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan really knows how to pick his cast members, which is sure to make this prequel series another hit for the show’s creator.
From the trailer, Harrison Ford’s character, Jacob Dutton, and his wife, Cara, played by Helen Mirren are two major contenders. Watching these two working to protect their Montana ranch is surely going to be major. Meanwhile, the prequel is set in a difficult time, the Great Depression and the era of Prohibition.
Helen Mirren on Jacob and Cara Dutton
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Mirren opened up about her and Ford’s characters, saying:
There is balance in that partnership. Cara is the person that stops Jacob from his excesses. She can see when he’s going into dangerous territory, self-destructive territory, and she is capable and has the power to pull him back from the edge and save him in that way.
The premiere of 1923 will reveal the Duttons protecting their cattle. Jacob, his workers and his family will be sent away from the ranch on a long mission. Meanwhile, this includes their nephew, John Dutton, Sr. (James Badge Dale), great nephew Jack (Darren Mann) and foreman Zane David (Brian Geraghty).
While they are away, Cara is the one to protect the ranch with the help of Emma Dutton (Marley Shelton) John’s wife and Jack’s mother. As seen in the recent trailer, the series premiere will show the lengths Cara will take to protect their land. Speaking of those moments, Mirren said:
As the story progresses, [Cara] has the strength to take control if she needs to, and where and when she needs to, of this huge enterprise, which is the ranch.
She went on to explain that her character, Cara, wasn’t “someone who had walked across the Plains to get to the West, to get to Montana.” adding:
The women of that era were incredibly strong, physically strong, mentally strong. They couldn’t afford to have breakdowns or nervous reactions to things unless they were very rich. So, she’s a very, very, very strong person.
The Yellowstone prequel, 1923, premieres on Sunday, December 18 on Paramount+.
