Smokey Robinson Fans Diss Sexual Assault Allegations

Reportedly, Motown singer and record exec, Smokey Robinson faces serious accusations of sexual assault from four individuals. Despite these allegations, many of his fans are expressing disbelief. Keep reading to find out why they feel some skepticism.

The Charges Against Smokey 

The African American is now 85 years old, and after decades of his successful career, there were no blemishes related to sexual incidents at all. However, earlier this month, he stood accused of abusing four employees in his home between 2007 and 2024.

The news was reported by TMZ this week, and the sordid allegations seem a bit shocking. The outlet noted that four women who kept their names anonymous claimed a variety of penetrations, oral sex, and even r@pe that went down. 

The outlet added:

The suit was filed in Los Angeles Tuesday morning…The 4 accusers — who say they overlapped while working for Smokey and Frances — claim they were assaulted multiple times … with the first alleged incident occurring in 2007.

Disbelief By Fans

When the news arrived on Instagram, fans of the founder and frontman of the Motown group, The Miracles, seemed angry. Not with Smokey Robinson, but with the accusation. 

In the comments section, one of them dissed the idea, saying, “They need to do something about these lawsuits seriously…..there should at least one police report and investigation FIRST…….these lawyers serving them for free so they can just say whatever hoping for a settlement smh…”

Other Cases Where People Felt Skeptical

The 2018 conviction of Bill Cosby for alleged indecent assault found a lot of non-believers as well. The popular old man couldn’t have possibly done the crime, people believed. Eventually, he ended up getting his conviction overturned in 2021. Way more than four people accused the TV star.

Another person was Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. His overturned conviction didn’t work for him, though, and he ended up convicted in Los Angeles in 2022 on charges of rape and sexual assault. He currently serves 16 years.

Not To Victim Blame

Allegations of sexual crimes can destroy the rich and famous. It’s not that people always disagree with the complaints, though. Rather, it seems that it takes an awful long time for them to finally open up about it.  Not to victim blame, but many fans believe Robinson’s alleged “victims” could have called him out way before now. 

While the #MeToo movement brought awareness about these types of crimes, it also raised skepticism. Some people pushed back. They worry that some accusations might not be true and that people’s reputations could be unfairly ruined as a result.

No doubt, the allegations against Smokey Robinson will play out in the media. Time will tell what happens, but for now, it seems lots of people simply don’t believe it.
