Fans of the popular Hallmark Channel show already knew that Home & Family was coming to an end. The finale of the daytime show aired on Wednesday, August 4 and the series is officially over and done. What will take its place? Here is what we know so far.
Hallmark Channel News – Cancels Home & Family
So far, the Hallmark Channel and Crown Media have made no statements about plans to replace Home & Family with another show. At the time of its cancellation, the daytime show was only airing three days a week at 10 am ET from Monday to Wednesday. In its last week, the episodes were followed by reruns of The Middle and Reba until 4 pm ET, with movie encores aired back-to-back.
Checking out the Hallmark Channel’s schedule right now, the time slot of Home & Family features reruns of The Golden Girls on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Encores of Hallmark movies are scheduled to run back-to-back following the reruns, in the late afternoons and evenings.
Fans knew it would be canceled
Variety first reported in March that Home & Family was heading for cancellation. Prior to that report, the show’s future already looked bleak. Home & Family had already been on a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Los Angeles.
In January, the show announced on its official Facebook page that it had to temporarily suspend production in order to comply with SAG/AFTRA. At the time, producers wrote that they would continue to monitor the health situation in L.A. and would keep fans updated.
After the long hiatus, Home & Family announced on March 8 that the show would return, but things still seemed uncertain. When the show returned, instead of airing a full schedule, the show returned on April 5 with the new one-hour format, airing only three days a week, Monday to Wednesday.
At that time, a spokesperson for the Crown Media Family Network said the change “tightens the show.” They said it allowed them to create more in-depth segments and interviews.
Hallmark Channel News – Officially canceled
However, that format didn’t last for long and on March 23, Crown Media announced that the series was canceled. The show said in a statement that season 9 was the last of the series. They noted that for almost a decade, Home & Family had anchored their daytime lineup, giving hours of cooking, lifestyle, DIY, health, entertaining and decorating segments.
The network went on to thank the “incredibly talented” cast and crew, led by co-hosts Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison. They said the show would return on Monday, April 5 and that the final episode would air on August 4, 2021.

Hallmark Channel News – Cameron Mathison Moves Over To General Hospital
Meanwhile, we do know that Cameron Mathison will be back on our screens in General Hospital. In an interview with the Soap Opera Network, Mathison said that he had always wanted to work on the popular soap opera.
When Cameron found out about the cancellation of Home & Family, he reached out to Frank Valentini, the executive producer, telling him he had always been a fan of the show. It turns out he was lucky, but so far, his role on General Hospital is unknown.

It seems like Hallmark is falling apart……No more Home & Family and no more Good Witch. The Hallmark Movies use the same stars over and over and the story material is the same……over and over…..same endings such as in the last 15 minutes, the couple breaks up and gets back together right at the end.
