British royal family news shows that sibling rivalry is a real thing, as any brother or sister worth their salt will tell you. There is bound to be competition among siblings, let alone angst over who is mom or dad’s favorite. The royal family is no different in that regard, and legend has it that Prince Andrew is Queen Elizabeth’s favorite child. Maybe a little more tough love and things would have turned out differently for him?
Anyway, the numbers are out showing who the hardest working royal was of 2021 and it’s a tight race, with the winner taking first place by just two royal events attended.
Princess Anne Is the Hardest Working Royal
Princess Anne is officially the hardest working royal of 2021 according to Woman and Home. She beat out her oldest brother, and heir to the throne, Prince Charles.
The count was chalked up by royal watcher Tim O’Donovan who uses the Court Circular, the official daily list of royal engagements, to add up each royal’s events and engagements. Numbers don’t lie, so congratulations to Princess Anne who has long been considered the family workhorse.
Royal Family News – Prince Charles Is In Second Place
Anne has a reputation for her dedication to charity work. While the pandemic has put a cap on the number of engagements conducted by the royals, she still carried out a considerable number of engagements.
Before the pandemic unleashed its fury upon the world in 2019, Anne made 506 official royal engagements. Her 2021 engagements are nowhere near that number but it’s predicted that in 2022 she will match if not beat her 2019 numbers.
Part of the reason for that is the queen’s recent ill health which has led her to cancel many engagements.
The Queen Has Cancelled Many Engagements
But despite the Queen showing signs of wear and tear at the close of 2021, she still managed to keep a very respectable number of official events, 184 to be exact. This year marks her 70th year on the throne, which will be celebrated with a Platinum Jubilee to include parades, public celebrations and a four day Bank Holiday in the UK.

Rounding out the top ten event goers for 2021, Prince William was in third place with 235 and the Earl of Wessex was next with 204. Close to that number was Edward’s wife Sophie the Countess of Wessex who attended 194 engagements followed by the Queen with 184.
