British royal family news reveals that Queen Elizabeth celebrated a historic milestone on January 6, aka Accession Day, the official start of her Platinum Jubilee year. On that day she also dropped a major bombshell about a key decision she reportedly made years ago. In her Jubilee statement, the queen stated that she wished her son Prince Charles’ wife to be called Queen Camilla, in opposition to the popular opinion that the controversial woman would be merely a princess when Charles becomes king.

The Queen Makes A Crucial Decision

The Daily Mail reports that this historic decision was actually made years ago, with Charles’ knowledge. A palace insider told the outlet that the queen made the decision roughly five years ago, but the news was made public on Saturday in the queen’s address. After the speech, Charles expressed his gratitude for the decision saying that he and Camilla, “deeply conscious of the honor represented.”

Charles added that his 95-year-old mother’s, “devotion to the welfare of all her people inspires still greater admiration with each passing year.”

The outlet also reports that, “Camilla will have the Queen Mother’s priceless platinum and diamond crown placed on her head when Charles is made king. It was created for King George VI’s coronation in 1937.”

To mark the historic day Buckingham Palace issued a photograph of a smiling queen in an armchair at Sandringham. She became queen after her father, King George VI, died on February 6, 1952, at the age of 56. Elizabeth was a newlywed, and just 25, when she was crowned.

Her announcement about Camilla is sure to raise some eyebrows: “When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me, and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

The Mail reports that the plan, “to crown Camilla as Queen Consort – as opposed to Princess Consort as originally planned – have been under way for some time, and Charles came close to announcing it in 2019.”
