Queen Elizabeth To Step Down From Throne?
At 96, Queen Elizabeth has ruled the United Kingdom for 70 years. But her increasing health problems have caused some privately to urge her to abdicate the throne, reported Geo TV. As a result, rumors have soared that Queen Elizabeth will step down. And that would put Prince Charles on the throne as King.
However, some wonder if Charles feels prepared to replace Elizabeth. But insiders claim that planning has begun. For instance, one source described plans for Charles’ coronation. “We are shaping a military event that will need approval from the palace nearer the time,” stated the insider.
And royal family expert Daniella Elser even urged the Queen to abdicate. Calling the move “unthinkable,” the commentator explained her reasons for that recommendation. “Queen Elizabeth should retire as she can no longer physically do her job,” stated Elser.
Royal Family Polls Pits Queen Elizabeth Against Prince Charles
But a recent poll revealed how the United Kingdom feels. One in three individuals think that Queen Elizabeth should retire. About half want her to stay on the throne. However, only 36 percent believe that Prince Charles would serve as an effective king.
Because of the Queen’s health issues, though, Charles increasingly has taken over her duties. For instance, Reuters recently reported that Prince Charles replaced Queen Elizabeth at the opening of parliament. As a result, Charles read the legislative agenda at the Palace of Westminster for the first time.

And royal family expert Elser pointed to such situations as reasons for the Queen to step down. Because that would allow a smooth transition, Elser believes that the Queen would enjoy the results. “A joy-filled coronation for King Charles III [could star] his beaming mother casting a proud eye over proceedings,” she noted. And the Queen herself has stated that she hopes Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will become known as Queen Consort when Charles becomes King. That statement added to rumors that Elizabeth increasingly wants to abdicate.
