My Big Fat Fabulous Life Spoilers: Whitney Way Thore’s Mother,Barbara “Babs” Thore, Dead At 76

Whitney Thore announced her mother’s passing on Instagram this afternoon. Babs had suffered two strokes in the past few years and was confined to a wheelchair at the end of last season. Here is what we know so far.

My Big Fat Fabulous Life Spoilers: Whitney posted “Rest In Peace, Sweet Mommy. June 22, 1946—December 7, 2022.” Babs passed away on December 7 at 10:32 pm. “My mother died last night just as the credits rolled on her favorite movie. Dad, Hunter, and I held her as she took her last breaths.” Whitney says it was at the exact time she was born almost 40 years ago.

Last season centered around Babs’s struggle to survive her last stroke. Babs was in the hospital for weeks before finally getting to move to an assisted living residence with her husband Glenn Thore. Whitney’s cat Henchi stayed with Babs to keep her company as well. When fans last saw Babs out and about it was to attend Jessica Powell’s wedding.

Whitney stated that her mom passed away from Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy which is an untreatable progressive condition caused by proteins in the blood vessels dementia, seizures, and brain bleeding. In Babs’ case, it was brain bleeding or hemorrhagic strokes. Babs was diagnosed with this condition when she experienced her first stroke in 2017. Unfortunately, this meant that more strokes were inevitable.

Babs had a second stroke, the one featured last season, December 28, 2021, and her last was November 13, 2022. Babs was lucky enough to rally after the December 28 stroke last year but had not gotten back to her old self. Unfortunately, the damage from the last stroke became too much for the beloved reality tv star.

Whitney ended with this heartfelt message to fans and her mom.

“We want to thank you for loving our mother. She delighted in her newfound television career more than we can describe! It gave her such a sense of purpose and excitement and something to look forward to every time the crew came around. This last year navigating life after her second stroke was, perhaps surprisingly, the best of our lives. We never had more fun or laughed as much as we did the past year. The support from all of you made her feel so loved and encouraged. We are unbelievably thankful that we’ve been able to share her with you and it is our hope that her memory will continue to be a source of comfort and happiness for the rest of your lives, just as it will be for ours.
