John Mayer is known from back in the days when he dated top celebrities like Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift, and the rest. His breakup with some of these ladies mostly turned out messy because John always had a bad thing or two to say about his exes.
An example of such bad comments happened three years after his breakup with Jessica Simpson.
In 2010, in a conversation with “Playboy” Mayer made a remark about Simpson that was every bit derogatory. He said, “Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm.”
The above comment left Simpson not just embarrassed but she also felt disappointed that Mayer would say such a thing about her. Although Mayer apologized to Simpson later in the future, Simpson never forgave him.
John Mayer — Mayer Said He’s Confused By The “Womanizer” Tag
Speaking with the host of “Call Her Daddy” Alex Cooper, Mayer addressed the controversy surrounding his dating life and why he has remained single for the past six years.
Mayer talked about people tagging him womanizer, “I think, look, the elephant in the room is that I’m on a show that caters to women, and I have a couple of name plates on me, like ‘Lothario’ and ‘womanizer,’ and I think that is what that is.”
Mayer shared that he’s actually confused when people call him a womanizer. Mayer explained that from his childhood he was made to understand that anyone showing interest in him does that by “accident,” so whenever someone is interested in him, he loves “very deeply.” He said, “I felt very deeply when somebody liked me,” he said. “Very deeply.”
Speaking of why he’s been single for six years, Mayer said that after he quit drinking, he no longer had the “Liquid courage” to go into dating.
“Dating is no longer a codified activity for me, it doesn’t exist in a kind of… It’s not patterned anymore,” said Meyer.
Continuing, he said, “I don’t really date — I don’t think that I have to, to be quite honest, I quit drinking like six years ago, so I don’t have the liquid courage. I just have dry courage.”
John Mayer — Mayer Received Death Treats From Taylor Swift Fans
Mayer dated the “Midnights” singer Taylor Swift when Swift was 19 years old, and Mayer was 32. Their relationship lasted only for a few months and mostly faced backlash for the 13-year gap between them.
After their breakup, Swift wrote a song titled “Dear John” which seemingly referenced her relationship with Mayer, and as usual, Mayer had a bad thing to say about his ex.
Speaking with “Rolling Stone” that year, Mayer said he thinks Swift’s songwriting about their relationship was a “lousy thing to do.”
“It was a really lousy thing to do. I never got an email. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off guard.” said Mayer. “I will say as a songwriter that I think it’s kind of cheap songwriting.”
Mayer went on to say, “I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anybody’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!’ That’s bullshit.”
A year ago, screenshots of death threats from Swifts fans to Mayer surfaced online. A fan of Swift sent a DM to Mayer on his Instagram account saying “fuck yourself ugly bitch i hope you choke on something.”
Mayer replied the message with “I’ve been getting so many messages like these the past couple of days, I decided to choose your message at random to reply to. You can feel free to screenshot, share in any way you like if you want. I’m not upset, I just tend to have a curious mind and feel compelled to ask. Do you really hope that I die?”
After the screenshot went Viral, people were of the opinion that he shouldn’t receive death threats but they’re not in support of how he treated Swift.
