After an online petition to kick Amber Heard out of “Aquaman 2” gained over a million signatures, her fate in the DC universe was kind of up in the air. She then lost out to Depp on all three counts of his defamation case in June 2022, leading sources to allegedly say that her role in the movie had been cut shorter and that we would only be seeing her for about 5 minutes. This was followed by rumors that she had been replaced entirely.
However, according to a trailer played at the movie conference in Las Vegas, these rumors are far from the truth. So I guess, love her or hate her, we’ll get to see Amber Heard as redheaded Mera once again.
Amber Heard – “Fought Hard” To Still Have A Part In “Aquaman 2”
A lot has been said about Amber Heard’s future in the DC superhero movie, but in the midst of all the speculations that the studio had cut her off from the movie, a rep for the actress denied it mid-last year.
According to those present at CinemaCon on Tuesday, Amber Heard made a brief appearance in a trailer for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” as WarnerBros teased its strings of upcoming movies.
Those present say they saw Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Amber Heard return for “Aquaman’s” sequel. The first movie was very successful and was enjoyed on a global scale, marking Heard’s biggest project to date.
In June last year, Heard’s rep put a stop to the rumors that the 37-year-old actress had been cut from the project, saying, “The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane.”
During the highly publicized trial, Heard testified that she “fought really hard to stay in” the Aquaman sequel after the production team wanted exclude her from the film. However, even though she was able to retain her place on the film, her character’s appearance was rewritten to reduce her screentime.
“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character — without giving any spoilers away — two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch out,” she said on the stand.
Heard’s talent agent Jessica Kovacevic further noted that Heard’s smaller part in the movie could be attributed to her “lack of chemistry” with co-star Jason Momoa and the controversies surrounding her as a result of the court case.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will premiere in theaters on December 20.
