Royal family insiders believe that Camilla Parker Bowles fought for 25 years to become Queen. And some even describe Queen Camilla as clawing her way to King Charles’ side. As a result, one royal expert feels Camilla deserves credit for earning her crown.
Find out what insiders shared about the new queen’s path to royal success. And learn why one feels that Camilla achieved history’s biggest change in public perception. Get all the royal details below.
Camilla Parker Bowles Achieved ‘Image Rehab’
Royal family expert Tina Brown summed up how Camilla transformed public perception. And Brown told Page Six that Camilla deserves praise for “the greatest image rehab in history. She deserves a crown just for toughing it out,” added the former Vanity Fair editor.
But it took 25 years of work that involved King Charles, Camilla, their friends, and their advisors. And amid that quarter of a century push, some see the most significant moment as occurring just last year. That milestone involved persuading Queen Elizabeth to endorse Camilla as queen consort. The late Queen did so just before her death.
And just before her 2022 Platinum Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth wrote, “And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me.” She continued to express her “sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as queen consort as she continues her own loyal service.” And King Charles responded, sharing that he and Camilla felt “deeply conscious of the honor represented by my mother’s wish.”
King Charles Teams Up With Camilla To Make Her Queen
However, behind the scenes, Charles and Camilla worked to make her the queen, shared one palace insider. And the source described the “behind-the-scenes campaigning to get Queen Elizabeth to publicly endorse the title ‘Queen Consort.’ The news hijacked the jubilee.” But it all stemmed from a carefully planned public relations push.

And the results of that publicity campaign became evident in the coronation invitations. Rather than refer to Camilla as Queen Consort, the invitations reference her as Queen Camilla. Insiders feel that the publicity efforts changed public perception so that Charles, 74, and Camilla, 75, seem like loving grandparents and devoted members of the royal family.
And one palace insider warned that outsiders should not underestimate Camilla. Describing her as “no fool,” the source also shared that she really doesn’t stress about all the royal “trappings.” But she does care about her family. And Camilla made sure that her five grandchildren played roles in the coronation ceremony. Her son, Tom Parker Bowles, proudly parents Lola, 15, and Freddy, 13, and her daughter, Laura Lopes, parents Eliza, 15, and 13-year-old twins, Louis and Gus.
And Camilla’s son Tom supported that insider’s comment. Amid all the claims of Camilla clawing her way to the crown, Tom says his mother married for love. “I don’t care what anyone says. This wasn’t any sort of endgame. She married the person she loved and this is what happened,” Parker Bowles concluded.
