Coronation Street spoilers, news, and updates tease that Dame Maureen Lipman opened up about her character, Evelyn Plummber’s emotional exit story. The actress admitted that she’s worn out after filming her last scenes as she temporarily leaves the cobbles.
“They’ve really put me through it the last few weeks. I’ve had seven scenes to learn a day,” the actress said during an interview with Loose Women.
“The last shot [from] last night, I literally laid on the floor and said: ‘I can’t go on,’” she continued.
Coronation Street Spoilers – Maureen Lipman Leaves The Cobbles Temporarily
Fans may not see Lipman on the show for a while, but they can catch her as Rose on the West End. Martin Sherman’s one-woman play follows the story of the title character.
Rose is a Jewish woman who grows up in Ukraine, escapes Nazi-occupied Warsaw, and finds solace in a new life within the United States.
Playwright Martin Sherman lauded Lipman’s portrayal of Rose because she’s perfect for the part. She’s also happy that viewers will get to see her impeccable performance once again. Not only that, he said it’s “the greatest gift a playwright could ever dream of.”
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the actress would be temporarily stepping away from the soap opera while tensions run high as Tyrone Dobb’s (Alan Halsall) biological mother, Cassie (Claire Sweeney), arrives in Weatherfield.
Evelyn told Tyrone that Cassie had died. So, when the latter appears next month, things will take a turn for the worse, especially for Evelyn.
No need to worry because Lipman is returning to Coronation Street, given that she extended her contract last year.
Coronation Street Spoilers – Claire Sweeney Joins Cast Of Coronation Street
Sweeney shared that she felt ecstatic when she landed a role on the show. She’s grateful to Iain MacLeod for choosing her to play the role of Cassie and giving her a chance to work with Lipman, whom she considers one of her heroes.
She hopes fans will enjoy watching her character bring more drama to the show.
“Even though I’ve been lucky enough to have enjoyed an amazingly varied career for nearly 40 years, being cast in Coronation Street is, to me, better than being cast in a Hollywood movie,” Lipman said.
“I’ve watched it all my life and can’t quite believe that I’ll now be stepping onto those famous cobbles myself,” she added.
