There was a point when Mariah routinely labeled Summer (then played by Hunter King) as a snowflake. Grimes’ character felt Summer was a goody-goody and was not tough.

But times are different, and Summer’s personality, along with the actor who embodied her, changed. During the period when King was still with the cast Summer became reckless, returning to town with a brash attitude that Kyle rejected when both characters were off-screen.

The recast to Lanier was part of the re-freshening of Summer that began while King’s run was ending. Her embrace of adoptive motherhood and marriage to Kyle were significant signs that Summer matured.

Y&R Spoilers – Kyle Abbott Influenced By Friendship

Kyle is good friends with Mariah. But the word friends should be underscored.

Summer is Kyle’s longtime love and his wife. Her life is his priority, with Mariah playing off his angst. That was wrong and is not made okay by saying that she has to speak from the heart.

Viewers noticed that Mariah avoided reviving the old wars she and Summer had in daytime days gone by. She still sees Summer as someone who is not right for Kyle.

Telling Kyle that she can not remain friends with him if he allows Summer to continue went a step further. Mariah was pressuring Kyle into making a choice.

Lanier’s character extended Phyllis’ run from the law by making her leave the GCAC. But Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) has a beat on his suspect and will not relent.

Kyle’s decision to lead Chance to where he saw Phyllis will be followed by a face-off with Summer. Fans of this couple are right to feel apprehensive as there is no easy solution to their marital problems on Y&R.
