Jamie Lynn Spears Explains How Britney Spears Scrutiny Harmed Her Teen Daughter

Many of us, myself included, can get caught up on some internet drama that we say things without realizing just how far the hurt can go.

When Britney Spears’ fans were crucifying her baby sister on her behalf, there was an innocent standby who those words were hurting.

Who, you ask? Her teen daughter, Maddie. In a recent interview, Jamie finally addressed the public drama and how it affected her 15-year-old daughter’s mental health.

Right at the end of Britney Spears’ 13-year conservation, the “Toxic” singer took to social media to share a couple bad things her family allegedly did to her, and in doing so, turned her fanbase against them.

At the height of the controversies, with Jamie Lynn’s memoir “Things I Should Have Said” stoking the fire, Britney lashed out at Jamie Lynn, calling her a “scum person” and a liar. For a while, Jamie Lynn kind of became the internet’s punching bag.

“It makes me sad,” Jamie Lynn tearfully told Variety in an interview published July 19. “I don’t want my daughter to feel that way. So I have to say I will absolutely not allow my children—especially my oldest daughter, who was very affected by all of it—I will not allow her to feel this way in her life.”

Even though the 32-year-old admitted to being weighed down by all the criticisms she received at the time, her children Maddie and 5-year-old daughter Ivy, who she shares with husband Jamie Watson, gave her the strength to keep her chin up and gracefully endure it.

“My strength is out of the love for my children and wanting to make sure that I don’t give way to anything other than what I know to be authentic and true,” she continued. “It was hard, but at the end of the day, look where I am now.”
Happily, Britney and Jamie seem to be at a happier place at present, with Britney even paying her sister a visit on the set of her latest show “Zoey 102.”

“I have nothing but absolute love for every single one of my family members,” Jamie Lynn continued. “If I learned anything from last year, being so open and feeling like I had to defend myself at times, I don’t feel like there’s anything else that I need to say.”

She added that her priority is focusing on her daughters, her husband and the work she is doing.
