Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley began their prison sentences in January for tax evasion and bank fraud. But their daughter Savannah Chrisley just revealed that the Chrisley Knows Best patriarch has begun teaching finance classes in prison.
Find out which classes Julie has begun teaching at her own prison. And keep reading to learn the reason why they decided to become prison instructors (hint: It’s not altruistic).
Todd Chrisley – Becomes Prison Teacher
Chrisley Knows Best patriarch Todd Chrisley and matriarch Julie Chrisley continue to serve their prison sentences for bank fraud and tax evasion. And Todd started his prison sentence in January at FPC Pensacola in Florida, while Julie headed to FMC Lexington in Kentucky. But amid their imprisonment, Todd and Julie Chrisley have started teaching classes, reported TV Insider.
And on her Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley podcast, Todd’s and Julie’s 26-year-old daughter explained why her parents decided to become teachers. The work helps to reduce their prison sentences. And Savannah shared that the First Step Act lets prisoners cut down on their time in prison through their participation in education.
First, Todd and Julie received credits by taking classes. And now, by teaching, the Chrisley Knows Best couple can receive additional credits. But Savannah noted that her father decided to teach “a financial class, which how ironic?”

Julie Chrisley – Teaches Real Estate In Prison
And Savannah revealed that her mother Julie has “definitely taught classes, like she taught a real estate class. She’s got all these certificates from teaching and completing classes and all these things. Overachiever Julie is…always been.”
Prison records show that Todd and Julie both will receive releases sooner than the original sentence dates. And the Chrisley Knows Best patriarch will leave the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Pensacola in Florida on January 22, 2033. That date means that Todd will exit two years earlier.
Julie at first received a seven-year prison sentence, However, now she will exit the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, on October 19, 2028, which is a year and seven months less than in her original sentence.
Thus far, the Chrisley Knows Best stars have spent eight months in prison. And Savannah admitted that it still feels challenging. “Yesterday was exactly eight months since Mom and Dad had been gone, and it really hits,” shared Todd’s and Julie’s daughter. “I think it hit everyone pretty hard.”
And Savannah shared that she and her siblings “just hung out at the house all day yesterday, and we all were just in our own kinda weird moods. It’s sad, because you think of all the life that is moving on without them and even just me dating. I would love to go and tell my mom anytime something good happens or anytime something bad happens. But it’s not like I can pick up the phone and call. And so it’s really sad to see the amount of things they’re missing out on.”
