Whoopi Goldberg Insists Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie Weren’t Snubbed At the Oscars

All hell broke lose when Oscars failed to nominate Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie for their incredible work in the billion-dollar movie, “Barbie.” Many people weren’t going to have it and took to the internet to express their opinion, including co-stars America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling. You mess with “Barbie,” you mess with the squad, and the Oscars felt the heat of that snub.

Though, if you asked Whoopi Goldberg, she would tell you that it wasn’t a snub.

Whoopi Goldberg Doesn’t Believe the Oscars Snubbed “Barbie” For This Reason

“Barbie” rounded out 2023 as the highest grossing movie. On top of that, it was also the movie that generated the most buzz in 2023, as it boldly explored the themes of patriarchy, along with bringing the iconic doll to life in a way millions of people admired.

Even till now, the movie still gets the occasional compliment and you can still start an argument by saying you didn’t like this or that about “Barbie.”

Despite its themes of patriarchy, Oscar decided to cut Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig from the Best Actress and Best Director categories, while giving Ryan Gosling his chance to shine in the Best Supporting Actor category.

This, of course, led fans to call out the awards show and accuse them of snubbing the amazing actress and director.

During this week’s “The View,” Sara Haines brought Whoopi Goldberg, who is an Oscar winner herself, in on the conservation by asking her to share her opinion on the “Barbie” snub.

The “Sister Act” star replied: “I know the film, I know the greatness and the money, but [saying something was snubbed] assumes someone else shouldn’t be in there.”

“There are no snubs,” she added. “That’s what you have to keep in mind: Not everybody gets a prize, and it is subjective. Movies are subjective. The movies you love may not be loved by the people who are voting.”

A lot of influential people have waded in on the conversation, including former Presidential candidate Hilary Clinton, who shared on X, “Greta & Margot, while it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold, your millions of fans love you. You’re both so much more than Kenough.”
