If you’re holding your breath for when Martin Scorsese will bid his final adieu to the world of filmmaking, you should really just stop because that day is not happening.
According to the filmmaker, he has no retirement plans whatsoever, so it’s going to be a work till you drop situation. I don’t know why, but I honestly love that energy.
Martin Scorsese – Quails Retirement Rumors: “I Still Have More Films To Make”
Calm down people, Martin Scorsese is 81 and still perfectly capable of making great movies, so he’s not about to go anywhere.
He took the time during his latest appearance in Turin, Italy, to dispel rumors that his filmmaking career is winding down.
“I’m not saying goodbye to cinema at all,” he said at the country’s Museum of Cinema on Monday, Oct. 7, to a number of reporters. “I still have more films to make, and I hope God gives me the strength to make them.”
Scorsese was awarded for his contributions to Cinema at the event. This is coming after Variety revealed that the ‘Flowers of the Killer Moon’ filmmaker has postponed his upcoming movies – a Frank Sinatra biopic and a movie about Jesus Christ.
He initially intended to shoot both movies back-to-back, and while the Jesus Christ movie remains in production, the fate of the Frank Sinatra biopic, which was rumored to star Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role, is currently uncertain. There’s rumors it’s actually been axed.
This hasn’t, however, taken the wind out of Scorsese’s sail, as he is currently working on a documentary “about marine acrchaeology,” alongside the country’s Sicilian region.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is currently filming in select regions in Italy. The documentary will be based on research carried out by underwater archaeologist Lisa Briggs on the DNA of items recovered from ancient shipwrecks.
Aside from his highly acclaimed 2023 project ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ Scorsese lended his creative talent to a short film starring Timothée Chalamet, Blue de Chanel, in collaboration with the French fashion brand earlier this year.
