As fans eagerly await news about the Blue Bloods spinoff coming this fall, many are curious if former cast members like Tom Selleck will show up in Boston Blue.

The star of the show, Donnie Wahlberg, teasingly mentioned in an interview with Parade that viewers might see the unique Frank Reagan back on screen. Donnie suggested that Tom could appear in the Blue Bloods spinoff, saying, “New York and Boston are really close.”

He added, “They’re not that far apart.” Meanwhile, Tom expressed hope that the show’s characters might return in the future after Blue Bloods was canceled after its 14th season.

Tom Selleck Talked About The Success Of Blue Bloods Before Its Finale Aired

Before it’s finale, Tom Selleck talked about the success of Blue Bloods; “We rank as the third-highest scripted program across all of broadcast television. We’re dominating the evening slots-every member of the cast is eager to return,” he mentioned during an interview with CBS News; “And I assure you, we are not plummeting into oblivion.”

He continued, “We’re producing quality shows and maintaining our position-so, I’m uncertain about the future.” He subsequently informed Entertainment Weekly that Frank would remain the “commissioner until he can no longer do it,” suggesting he probably wouldn’t accompany his son to Boston.

Donnie Was Joyful Over The New Spinoff In March, Posting On Instagram

Donnie expressed his excitement about the new project in March. He shared his excitement by posting on Instagram: “I am thrilled to continue the tradition, to unveil numerous surprises, to address some lingering questions, and to invite all of you to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy is about to start, and I can hardly wait.”

The actor mentioned that his new co-star on the series is a big fan of Blue Bloods and is enthusiastic about honoring the show’s legacy.

Sonequa Martin-Green Plays Lena Peters, Ernie Hudson Plays Reverend Peters

Blue Bloods holds significant value for the audience, for me, and for Sonequa Martin-Green, as she shared with Parade. “She’s a fan of Blue Bloods. She’s my partner, and she’s a fan of Blue Bloods-she aims to preserve that legacy, too.”

Sonequa is set to portray Danny’s partner, Lena Peters, who comes from a family with a deep-rooted history in law enforcement.

Additionally, Ernie Hudson will join the cast as Reverend Peters, possibly a relative or in-law of Lena’s. “Hudson will take on the role of the family patriarch, Reverend Peters, a well-known pastor of a historic Baptist church in Boston,” reads a description of his character.

Why Does Danny Make Such A Major Move?

After the announcement, many people have been curious about what could lead Danny to leave his cherished New York and relocate to Boston for a fresh start.

“I can’t reveal the exact reason today, as that would spoil the surprise,” he mentioned; “however, I can say this: while Danny is very family-oriented, he has always followed his own path. I believe both can coexist-he can follow his own path, and it can still revolve around family-this will be a journey and a process for him,” the 55-year-old continued. “He understands the audience that thinks, ‘I can’t believe Danny would move to Boston, well, he feels the same way, h e’s in the same boat. He will need to navigate this because it’s a significant life change.”

How Will Danny Get Along Without His Family In The Same City?

Donnie also shared he thought it was a fun experience to see how his character might develop in a new city, away from his family. He shared the journey of developing this show to let Danny be a fish out of water in this new world is fun.

He also said it’s important to remember where Danny comes from, and to remember what the Blue Bloods legacy is.

Donnie also said something that will be a relief to all his Blue Bloods fans. He said that they’re keeping who Danny is and the legacy of Blue Bloods at the forefront.

    These Excellent Actors may, again, draw Fan Interest. I hope so; Selleck’s participation will Draw Fans to this new ‘Reagan’ endeavor!
    My late Brother, and I, loved Blue Bloods, especially the Sunday Family Dinner Scenes. Perhaps this new Series may, frequently, bring my Brother’s Long Life of Good Sense and Honest Accomplishment to my mind more often!
