ITV Coronation Street spoilers and updates show that Kirk Sutherland, as played by Andy Whyment, has been a fan fave for more than 20 years. But Whyment has dropped a major clue that could indicate the future of his character on the ITV soap.

Whyment recently took a look back at his time on the show and may have given a hint as to his future. Kirk came to Weatherfield in 2000. He is the brother of Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon). Over the years he has been involved in a large array of storylines, including romance with Beth Tinker (Helen George).

Kirk went off in search of stardom last year in a daring move, but came back just a few weeks later and decided to stay after missing his beloved way too much.

Last year he was also involved in serious scenes as he prepared to say goodbye to Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn).

Coronation Street spoilers – What will happen next to Kirk Sutherland?

This week was the 20th anniversary of Whyment’s debut on the soap and he spoke to OK! Magazine about his future.

What is his favorite moment on the show? According to Whyment he has hugely enjoyed his character’s relationship with Beth (Lisa George) and calls it his favorite moment.

“I think Kirk getting married to Beth has been my favorite storyline because I never thought Kirk would get married.”

As fans know, these two married in 2015 but then Kirk discovered Beth was still married to her son Craig’s (Colson Smith)! Nonetheless, the pair worked through the issue.

“He has always been unlucky in love, said Whyment. “People always compare Kirk and Beth to Jack and Vera Duckworth but, in my eyes, there will only ever be one Jack and Vera.”

Coronation Street spoilers – Will Kirk Sutherland soon exit the cobbles?

Whyment said that he still gets excited about the show, “I still get a buzz now when I drive up to the studio gates and they lift the barriers for me.”

When he was asked if he had plans to leave the show, and if he thought he would be on as long as William Roache, who has been on the soap since its very first episode, he was reflective. “I am still a massive fan of the show and it’s a privilege to have been there this long.”

“I don’t think that’s (equalling Roache’s record) ever going to happen, nobody can touch Bill, but I certainly have no desire to leave. When I came out of the jungle, people asked me if I wanted to do other things but I don’t,” he said.

“Coronation Street has always been my bread and butter and I’m very lucky that I enjoy what I do. You can’t ask for more than that,” he added.
