How annoying is it that one would have to constantly stand up and say, “Wait a minute, that’s not true” the way Kate Middleton has had to? Many fans of Kate Middleton know that the Duchess of Cambridge has had to put up with a ton when it comes to shoddy reporting. Many and sundry tabloids in the U.K. and beyond have gone into great detail about supposed “heartbreaks” and “disasters,” “conflicts” and “tragedies” that Kate has had to face, endure, and more.
Some believe that is may simply be par for the course, something that those in The Firm like Kate Middleton must learn to live with. However, many fans of Kate might agree that sometimes publications and their staff writers just go too far. For example, constantly going on ad nauseum about Kate Middleton’s supposed feud with Meghan Markle and the heartbreak she’s had to endure because of the strain it’s placed on her friendship with Prince Harry, etc. Some might agree with Kate Middleton that enough is simply enough!
In fact, that’s exactly what Kate Middleton apparently communicated. It’s been reported that Kensington Palace went to war with at least one tabloid and publicly admonished it for false and misleading statements. These statements covered the gamut and made wild speculations about Kate’s life, her feelings regarding her royal duties, her feelings regarding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, and more. To make matters worse, as in many puff pieces put out by tabloids, no sources were named. All “friends” etc. who provided the publication with information on Kate were left anonymous. It’s no wonder Kate was put out!
Now, while Kate Middleton has made it clear that the publication’s assertions were misleading at best, many wonder if she will resort to action against tabloids in the future. The truth is, Kate has the option of following in the footsteps of both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on this issue.
Royal watchers may remember that Meghan and Harry chose to take a legal battle to British tabloids back in 2019. In fact, Meghan and Harry were so serious about it that the New York Times reported that Harry “started legal proceedings against the owners of two British tabloids over accusations that they hacked his phones ….” At that point, Meghan had already filed her own lawsuits.

British tabloids in Harry and Meghan’s crosshairs included The Sun, The Daily Mirror and Associated Newspapers (the parent company of tabloids, The Daily Mail and the Mail).
That’s all well and good for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but what about Kate Middleton some might ask. Shouldn’t Kate refrain from going on the attack? After all, Kate is in line to be queen one day. Won’t Kate want a cordial relationship with the press when that happens?
The answer is that of course Kate will want a pleasant relationship with media outlets. That doesn’t mean, however, that the Duchess of Cambridge must simply sit down, shut up, and allow the media to abuse her person or her family. Kate did the right thing by calling out the Tatler recently.
She might do well, at least on this front, to take a cue from Meghan and Harry … royal rebels though they are.
